Review: Rush Me

Rush Me
Rush Me by Allison Parr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Although I had to suspend reality a bit for RUSH ME, I loved it nonetheless.

What’s the first thing a group of professional athletes think when a single girl crashes their party and then comes back the next day to “get her scarf”? Of course, they invite her in, welcome her with open arms and tell her to pull up a seat and join them in a game of poker… Errr… OR They call security because they think she is a stalker wanting to get in on some professional athlete action. Yeah, I am with Ryan’s cynical line of thinking on this one, but all his NFL playing buddies take a liking to Rachael immediately like she’s been around all along. Maybe I’m crazy, but that’s the “suspend reality” part – I am sure that all famous people have to be cautious of the “stage-5 clingers”.

Rachael is a down to earth kind of girl and maybe that’s what the guys see in her. She is grounded and has absolutely no interest in securing any private time with the ‘Almighty Ryan Carter – Pro-Athlete’. *Eyeroll* He is so full of himself to even think she is attracted to him! She has more important things to think about than a dead-end romance. *Snort* Oh yeah? Like what? Eventually they can’t deny the chemistry they feel.

RUSH ME is a new adult, sports themed contemporary romance. Snatch it up if those things appeal to you – it’s entertaining and sexy and you’ll be rooting for Rachael and Ryan all the way until the end!

My favorite quote from the book – such great words to live by:
Even with the lows, there’re all those highs. And isn’t that better than a life of mediocrity?

Review: Claimed in Canada

Claimed in Canada
Claimed in Canada by Christine Edwards

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Welcome to the Yukon
A Land of wild beasts
and wilder men.

Praise Jesus for that!

Violet, a researcher who has been blessed with the opportunity to study wolves in the Canadian Yukon, is beyond excited. Apart from the wolves, Violet soon realizes there’s a lot more to be excited about that involves an animal of the human variety. Violet finds herself to be the object of affection for not one, but two very dominant and very determined men; Luke and Damon.

Luke is a logger and all rugged male. Upon their initial brief but interesting interaction, Violet senses there is something very different than she has ever encountered in any other man - Luke has a commanding demeanor that excites and unnerves her at the same time.

Damon, the surgeon is polished perfection. Any girl would be lucky to have him and he is safe, right? Just because he offers financial stability doesn’t mean he is the right man for her.

I loved CLAIMED IN CANADA. It’s a sexy spin on the typical stories of Domination and submission that line the bookstore shelves these days. I am really looking forward to reading more of author Christine Edward’s work, hopefully in the near future.

(Christine, if you read this – Go Cougars! lol… College of Charleston is my Alma mater too!)

Review: The Pleasures of Winter

The Pleasures of Winter
The Pleasures of Winter by Evie Hunter

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

THE PLEASURES OF WINTER reminded me of a steamy version of the swashbuckling movie, ROMANCING THE STONE… I loved that movie!

When Hollywood heartthrob and notorious womanizer, Jack Winter and reporter, Abbie Marshall find themselves in the middle of a rainforest after their private jet crashes, that is when the games between the unlikely pair really begin!

I wanted to like Abbie, but she made that really hard, especially in the beginning of the book. She wanted Jack to see her as a serious journalist, but she ended up making herself looking kind of like a brat with a sense of entitlement. That is how I expected Jack to act, since he is the famous one on the Hollywood A-List.

Their time in the rainforest lasted barely long enough for Jack to realize that Abbie calls to his inner Dom and for Abbie to realize she needs someone like Jack to teach her all the discipline that has been missing from her charmed life. After have a taste of the pleasures that Winter has to offer, Abbie realizes that her fiancé, William, just won’t do for her any longer. In an interesting twist of six degrees of separation - actually, less, Abbie is unknowingly paired up with Jack the Dominant in a series of online chat sessions to ease her into the BDSM lifestyle. In person, Jack continues to play it cool and Abbie is the one running after him like a good little sub; in that respect, I felt that the balance of power was greatly tipped in Jack’s direction and I would have liked for Abbie to have maintained more of her natural spunk. I felt that her desire for Jack bordered a bit on obsession, but I suppose that is a quality Jack found appealing.

THE PLEASURES OF WINTER was an entertaining read that definitely leans towards the fluffy side of “the lifestyle.” I will definitely be reading the other books in this series as they sound equally as interesting and sexy as this first book in the series.

Review: A Beautiful Heist

A Beautiful Heist
A Beautiful Heist by Kim Foster

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A BEAUTIFUL HEIST made me want to go put on my cat suit on and bone up on my MacGyver skills, because being a jewel thief is sexy and who doesn’t love to feel sexy?

Cat Montgomery is a professional thief and she is damned good at it. One big snafu is that her ex-boyfriend is an FBI agent and he is on to her, but Cat apparently likes to live on the edge because she is also dodging bullets from her former friend and mentor and let’s not forget the art thief who is “helping” her or is he?

Kim Foster does a great job combining a variety of elements that make a great read. There’s mystery and mayhem, romance and don’t forget the humor – the heroine, Cat, is funny and quite entertaining. One area for improvement in this book, in my opinion, would be to pick a plot and stick with it. I kind of felt that the story was a bit watered down, because there was just SO MUCH going on – at times, I felt it was too much and tended to skim a bit over the plot lines that I was less interested in.

Despite the weak points, I liked the book and I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future.

Review: A Moment

A Moment
A Moment by Marie Hall

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A MOMENT is one of those books I have had for a while and I just got around to reading it. If you have it, then consider this your call to action! It’s a great book! If you don’t have it, then you have absolutely no excuse, because it is currently FREE at Amazon (as of 8/31/13) .

A MOMENT is sweet and emotional and there is a lot going on with the characters in this book.

Liliana Delgado is lovely. I just want to hug her! She has the weight of the world on her shoulders. After a one-night stand at the tender age of fourteen, she finds herself pregnant and all alone. As the
single mother to an autistic 7-year-old living with her sick mother – she is responsible for everyone in her household AND she still manages to get an education. Love is something she just doesn’t have time for, but fate has other plans for her.

Ryan Cosgrove is a tortured soul. His demons are dark and cloying and they prevent him from seeing his life for what it is: a gift. He has a lot of heavy issues to deal with, including bouts of depression, rage, despair, but most recently, love – this is a new emotion for him, but he does not feel worthy of the ones he loves.

In A MOMENT, we catch a glimpse of the man Alex Donovan is. Alex is Ryan’s cousin and Liliana’s best friend. He is protective to the core and deserves better than the hand he has been dealt. Like Lili and Ryan, he has had to shoulder the burden of far too much in his relatively young life.
Ryan isn’t pretty, he’s rugged. All man. There’s nothing soft about him, but it’s no less sexy. Alex may have the market cornered on country-fed, down-home yummy, but Ryan is the kind of guy who makes a girl feel immediately safe and vulnerable and sexy, especially when his hot gaze is all over you, like his is on me right now.
Together, Ryan and Lili find their way in the big bad world and ultimately get their HEA, but hopefully, their story is not over and we will get to see a little bit of them in Alex’s book that is due out soon, called RIGHT NOW. I am anxious for that “country-fed, down-home yummy,” Alex to get his happily ever after.

Review: Ruin

Ruin
Ruin by C.J. Scott

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

For a quick read, RUIN packs in a whole lotta drama!

It’s the classic story line of the small town sheriff’s daughter who is also a “good girl” falls for the vagabond bad boy.
I'm not perfect. Not by a long shot. If my parents knew what I got up to at college, they'd be horrified. I've slept with more guys in the last three years than I care to talk about. I've smoked God knows what, I've skipped class, and last month I woke up in the gutter without any underwear. See? I'm not fucking perfect!

Well, just to be fair, I think most parents would keel over if they knew what their kids got up to in college – there are some things a parent just never needs to know and that would be one of them.

I fell in love with Ben right away. He’s a good guy with a bad boy stigma attached to him and I think he’s just perfect for Kate Bell. She’s not a good girl, but everyone thinks she is… kind of ironic, isn’t it? Ben and Kate both have secrets, Ben’s secrets just happen to be pretty earth shattering. One of his big secrets was really no surprise to me, but despite the predictability, I quite enjoyed the journey.

I will definitely be checking out the follow up book in this new series to see where life takes this sexy young couple.

Review: Soul Stripper

Soul Stripper
Soul Stripper by Katana Collins

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

SOUL STRIPPER didn’t work for me. I wanted it to, but it didn’t hold my attention. Honestly, I thought it was a poor imitation of Richelle Mead’s Succubus series. I didn’t connect with Monica, the lead character – I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there was just something about her that was a little off. For a succubus, I was expecting the sex scenes to be off the charts, but they were mediocre at best.

So, there’s no need to belabor the point. It wasn’t for me, but there were plenty of people who liked it, so if it strikes your fancy, then check it out. You might love it.

Review: Pinch of Naughty

Pinch of Naughty
Pinch of Naughty by Gem Sivad

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a cute little quickie!

PINCH OF NAUGHTY was an unexpected delight! I must have missed it in the blurb, but I wasn’t expecting a Historical Western Romance, but that is exactly what I got and I really enjoyed it.

Eleanor Lacey got shafted in the love department. So, when she is forced to flee her hometown in the wake of a scandal, she decides that hooking up with Cyrus Burke, the richest man in the state of Texas, is a good idea. Although she comes from a reputable family, she has taken a position as the maid, cook and bed partner to the man of the house. Cyrus is everything you would expect – he’s gruff, suspicious and demanding and he’s not looking for a wife because they are good for nothing that he doesn’t already have access to in his life. Eleanor isn’t like any of the other housekeepers he has employed in the past and this little fact has Cyrus more and more intrigued every day. She is sassy and spunky and has no time for love, so they are on the same page in that department. So, watching the love-resistant pair fall for each other was incredibly entertaining.

If you are looking for a quickie that burns up the sheets, then, PINCH OF NAUGHTY might be the novella for you!

Review: Eighteen at Last

Eighteen at Last
Eighteen at Last by Gretchen de la O

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

 photo rollercoaster2_zps07b71afd.gif

Yeah, a roller coaster… an emotional roller coaster. That’s exactly how I felt while reading EIGHTEEN AT LAST; it was way more emotional than I expected it to be.
Sometimes I can’t believe Wilson’s only seventeen. She seems so much older.
Yes, Max, haven’t you heard that girls mature faster than boys? I believe that is a scientific fact (sounds good anyway) – that is why you feel like you are on the same level, because mentally, you are ☺.

The story of Wilson and Max’s forbidden love affair picks up where the first book, ALMOST
EIGHTEEN left off. Wilson is still sweet and semi-innocent in the month leading up to her eighteenth birthday – you know the day they can get down and dirty without Mr. Max getting arrested for having sex with a minor? Yeah, eighteenth birthday = really big day! They continue their steamy sessions of heavy petting… and licking… but they do their best to keep their romance on the down-low, but were they sneaky enough to keep their shenanigans secret? I know, but I'm not tellin'.

I loved Wilson, I felt like she had this sweet disposition that made the "girl-next door" title perfect for her. This is kind of how I pictured the Wilson we grew to love from ALMOST EIGHTEEN… the virginal Wilson:

 photo kate_upton_elle_hot_magazine_10-480x620_zpsc892771d.jpg

Bringing his lips to mine, he kissed me like I was a drug he craved more than life.
Thank God! They FINALLY did it! But after a few rounds of doing the nasty, Wilson goes from the good girl next door to a wanton little hussie…

 photo tumblr_m3g9d3zwzq1rvpsb7o1_400_zpse2f0e17e.gif

Ok, well, maybe not quite a slut, but let’s be honest here… SHE DOES NOT MAKE GOOD CHOICES AFTER GETTING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH DICKIE! It’s like the penis made her stupid too! OH LAWD! Stupid is contagious! I was really disappointed in Wilson’s behavior once she left Max’s family home after they had sex, but honestly, without the drama, it wouldn’t have been as interesting. Predictable outcomes are never very exciting.

Oh Gretchen! Why do you torture us so? A cliffy? Boooooooo! Ok, so the dreaded cliffhanger isn’t terrible, but I am still counting down the days until the release of the third book, BEYOND EIGHTEEN. October 2nd is right around the corner, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for an ARC… *HINT* *HINT*

Review: Snake in the Grass

Snake in the Grass by Staci Hart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Staci Hart delivers a well-researched and highly creative spin on traditional Greek mythology. She takes the gods we all know and love (or love to hate) and gives them an outlet to play with human characters in the ultimate game of life.

Aphrodite is up again and this time she’s playing against Ares, her long-standing lover and nemesis all wrapped into one fiery package. Adonis still isn’t talking to her after what happened in DEER IN HEADLIGHTS and without her human lover, Aphrodite is all revved up and her only sexual outlet is the god she’s currently competing against. What to do?

Then there are the players. Japanese mafia offspring Kat and Kiki fled from Vegas after Kiki’s ex almost killed her. Kat is determined to protect her sister at all costs. Dillon has spent his entire life
protecting his brother Owen from an abusive, alcoholic father. Now he’s worried that if he lets himself get close to someone, he’ll be too much like his father and so he doesn’t let anyone in. When Ares picks Dillon as his player, Aphrodite chooses Kat; determined that the two broken, protective adults deserve a little bit of happiness after a lifetime of watching out for someone else.

Now it’s all up to timing, fate, and the gods to see who will win between Aphrodite and Ares. And while this is enough to keep anyone busy, Aphrodite is still trying to decide if she wants to know the real truth of what happened between Ares, Apollo and Adonis those thousands of years ago.

I thought that Staci Hart did a great job of staying true to the mythological roots while taking the characters for a spin that had an excitement all its own. The reason for my rating is not in the writing, which I thought was spot-on, but for my own reaction to the story. I had a really hard time staying in the story when we would switch from the human players to the Greek gods. I would get so caught up in Kat and Dillon’s story, only to feel ripped out when it was time to return to Aphrodite and Ares. And while I thought the gods’ personal drama was also interesting and entertaining, it just left me feeling unengaged in the story as a whole because I wanted to commit to two people and immerse myself in them. As this is just a personal preference on my part, I would definitely still recommend this book to anyone who loves Greek mythology mixed with some good contemporary romance.

Review: Almost Eighteen

Almost Eighteen
Almost Eighteen by Gretchen de la O

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Close your eyes and remember what it was like to have your very first schoolgirl crush on your hot young teacher. Having trouble? No worries, Wilson Mooney can help take you back to those glorious days, but the difference is that Ms. Wilson Mooney was actually fortunate enough to have a little taste of her hunky teacher.
They always say teachers shouldn’t touch their students. What a heap of steaming crap. Please, touch me all you want. How do you think he kept me coming back to my government class?

Every girl needs a little incentive to keep her going back to those boring old government classes – the educators of the world would do well to write this down: EYE CANDY MAKES CLASS
INFINITELY MORE INTERESTING! Especially the boring ones…

ALMOST EIGHTEEN captured my interest immediately! The story contains elements that can generally lure me in, like forbidden love, a wounded main character and a virginal heroine, but the dynamic characters and amusing story are what HELD my attention.

Our heroine, Wilson is the quintessential innocent, teenaged girl, but nicer. She has had a lot to deal with in her relatively short life, so the fact that she still has a positive outlook on life is amazing in and of itself. The only thing that keeps her going back to her government class is her sexy, young teacher, Max Goldstein. Wilson basically spends her days (and nights) fantasizing about Max… err… Mr. Goldstein. So imagine her delight when she discovers that she and Mr. Goldstein will be in Aspen on the same weekend – of course, she can only dream that their paths will cross. Ha! She has no clue that her fantasy is about to become reality!

I loved Max, but the adult in me wanted to slap him upside the head for putting himself in such a predicament to begin with – GAH! Men and their penises can be so stupid!! I wanted to scream: KEEP IT IN YOUR PANTS – HELL-O STATUTORY RAPE! On the other hand, the teenaged girl in me wanted him to quit messing around and to just rip those fucking panties off already!

Max was in a no-win situation. Damned if he does it and damned if he doesn’t.

I loved this book and I've GOT to see what happens next, so, I'm jumping straight into the next book, EIGHTEEN AT LAST, because Dammit! My name is I ♥ Bookie Nookie and I'm jonesing for some of that barely-legal, cherry-poppin’ action!

P.S. Love the cover – I am a big fan of butterflies & the kissing faces (yes, go ahead & go check out the cover again, it took me a minute too) are sheer genius ☺

My Review:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The nectar of a Georgia Peach is so sweet and delicious there’s no wonder you feel like “Bubba Gump” in a peach orchard the second you step across state lines. Georgia residents make anything and everything you can imagine from the tasty flesh of a peach. I should know, I myself was raised as a Georgia Peach… Bless my soul and I know just how fast that Peachy status can bring a grown man to his knees. Lucky him…

Georgia Peach, Carly West is no exception. Carly’s sweet, southern disposition and solid work ethic
make her a prime catch for any man, but that doesn’t mean just any man deserves her. Enter Wade Dawson. He’s the bounty hunter in charge of wrangling her in and making sure she makes it to the alter, not with him, but to wed another man. Wade is focused and he’s determined to accomplish the task at hand, but Carly calls to him like honey does to the lowly fly and resisting her southern charm is proving to be a hell of a lot more difficult than he ever imagined.
If you were mine, I’d put my tongue right here.” . . .
“And I’d lick you until the neighbors knew my name.
Oh My God, Cowboy! Knock yourself out and lick away! Wade Dawson, if you’re bringing that dirty mouth to my house, you had better be prepared to know every neighbor in a 25-mile radius!

Cowboy? Did I mention that he is also a cowboy? Yes, he is a bounty-hunting, dirty-talking cowboy with all kinds of sexy to spare, but he is only interested in Miss Carly West and that fact has him so twisted up inside he can hardly think straight. But Wade is an honorable man and there is no chance he would ever poach in another man’s territory. Um-hmm… There’s a reason someone came up with that phrase: “never say never,” because I know for a fact that good cowboys ALWAYS rescue their damsel in distress and trust me when I say that Carly is in desperate need of being rescued!

Wade is a master of many things, but he has the market cornered when it comes to 2 things: Fightin' and fuckin’. His words, not mine, but damn fine words they are! I’ll challenge any romance lover to read REARRANGED and walk away without fantasizing about Wade and those specific talents, and not necessarily in that order! Trust me, you’ll be lookin’ for the next best bounty-hunting, dirty-talking cowboy you can find to get busy with!

EXCERPT:

“Fast I can do. It’s soft and slow I’m goin’ to have a problem with.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Different meanin’ for different people, mine’s personal.” He placed his palms against the wall by her ears.

“I don’t understand.”

He leaned his forehead against hers. “Fuck… you’re killin’ me, darlin’.” His fingers skimmed across her cheekbone and disappeared into her hair. “Do you remember what I said about kissin’?” His hazel eyes trapped hers.

“It can be dangerous?”

“Yes. And slow… slow is very dangerous.” He leaned forward, brushed his lips across hers, and all the air left her lungs. Something strange started in the depths of her stomach, and her skin flushed. Her nipples tightened, growing to the point of pain as they rubbed against the cotton fabric of her bra.

His eyes flicked toward them, a deep grunt sounded from his chest, and his hand tightened in her hair. He held her with a firm grip and leaned his forehead back against hers. “Reach down, and undo my jeans.”

She was trapped. Even if she wanted to retreat, there was nowhere for her to go. He’d invaded her space. Intense eyes stared right into hers as if he was demanding her deepest secrets with one hand buried inside her hair and the other curled around her neck. A rock hard, well-defined stomach pressed against her belly. The skin-on-skin contact ignited a slow burn that was sure to grow into a wildfire any minute. If she weren’t leaning against the wall, she’d collapse.

Review: Deeper

Deeper by Blue Ashcroft
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A 5 star review for me is a feeling – it goes beyond meeting certain criteria I deem to be important and creates that indescribable feeling I get reading certain books that take me to another place. It makes me feel, and makes me never want to finish but unable to stop reading either. I cannot tell a writer how to create that feeling any more than an author can tell me how I should feel about a book. DEEPER did that for me. DEEPER for me is about broken people who are struggling to stay afloat, barely living, until they find someone equally broken who finally allows them to feel again – and maybe, with any luck, to one day heal.

I loved how possessive Knight was – how controlling. You see this in plenty of adult novels these days, but not so much in New Adult, and I adored it. I thought it was the perfect amount of assertive sexiness without going over the top. Knight couldn’t help but want to protect Rain – and Rain couldn’t help but put herself in danger in order to protect everyone else. Perfect fucked up combo. And I’ve never really noticed how great swimmers bodies were before – but now it’s all I can think about!

Why did I spend all of my college weekends at football games when I could have been at swim meets? What was I thinking? Why were my priorities so out of whack? The way Rain described Knight and his ken doll lines made me swoon!

Sorry, where were we? Oh yah, I’m writing a review of DEEPER, not just thinking about perfect male abs. Another thing I loved about this book were the lines (not the ken doll lines - though those were definitely a favorite - but the quotes) - they were angsty, deep, touching and romantic.

She’s trying to cut me loose to protect me. But it’s like she’s running me over with a small train to avoid possibly running me over with a bigger one.

Some things are worth fighting for. And even though I know the price of a fight fought and lost, I want to fight this fight for her.

I felt every emotion these characters expressed – I believed it, lived it, knew it like I knew myself. I could completely identify with their pain – and why they made the choices they made. And I absolutely fell in love with their love story. Their broken, twisted love story. I also really liked the two points of view – I thought it flowed well and was a perfect way for the reader to embrace both characters and their feelings/emotions equally.

I wouldn’t have minded if the intimate scenes were a little more descriptive. I’m not asking for a lot, I thought it was really well done and I could feel the heat – but if Rain is asking if what they just did could be considered sex and I thought the lowest he got was kissing her belly button, you can see where I might be confused. A few extra details might have clarified some of that for me.

All in all, I thought this was a spectacular display of a broken love story – call me a glutton for punishment but this angsty, dark love story was the perfect read for me and I’d love to spend more time with Rain and Knight!

Review: Steal My Heart

Steal My Heart
Steal My Heart by Lisa Eugene

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when you combine a dirty old hobo and an obsessive-compulsive clean freak? Pure Magic!

STEAL MY HEART is a winner! Author Lisa Eugene combines a bit of humor with a healthy dose of steam and ends up with this romantic treasure. I love it when the most unlikely characters turn out to be a match made in heaven.

Nurse Maggie Lawson is truly fanatical about cleanliness; in fact, I would say it pretty much runs her life. The inner dialogue Maggie has with herself is hysterical; she’s a total nut and I loved her for it! A prime example of her nuttiness upon her recollection of an adventure she had with her BFF, David, to the “grocery store of genital goodies” also known as a sex shop:

He’d teased her mercilessly because of the wig and dark glasses she’d insisted on wearing, and repeatedly assured her that she looked like the only weirdo pervert in the store, especially after she’d spent a great deal of time questioning the manager about the most efficacious ways of cleaning and sterilizing the device she’d reluctantly purchased. After being referred to the manufacturer, she’d finally gotten some answers, and had even made suggestions that he assured her would be added as an insert with the product. She’d been thrilled to offer her expertise on infection control.

When Ex-Navy SEAL, Gabe Masters stumbles into Maggie’s life dressed like a dirty old hobo, she had no idea her boring old life would never be the same - *thank God!* Gabe is all rugged and hot, bossy male, I mean, come on! He’s an Ex-Navy SEAL *RAWR* Enough said! Although they are both intent on denying their mutual attraction, I knew it was only a matter of time. Maggie and Gabe have unbelievable chemistry… I just knew they were going to get it on like a house on fire once they dropped the pretense of disinterest. At first, I felt a little bit sorry for her when her prefect and pristine little world began to crumble like confetti around her – but WAIT! Confetti is fun! Being dirty is fun! Gabe and his dirty boy ways are exactly what Maggie needs in order to learn how fun being dirty can be and I can't think of a better way to illustrate that than with one of my favorite scenes:

“Hmmm…no shower?” He frowned sternly, acting appalled. But his lips twitched with amusement.
“Gabe, please, no teasing…” Her hips started to rock against the finger that dipped into her, and she groaned at the feel of his stiff shaft against her hip.
“But Maggie, we’re so sweaty and…dirty.”
She wanted to kill him…maybe after. “Gabe!”
“Is it okay if we’re dirty, Maggie?”
A wicked smile played on his lips, and Maggie had the feeling he wasn’t speaking literally. Oh shit! Her nipples pebbled hard and her hips bucked.
“Well?”
Her brain was malfunctioning. “What?”
“You want it dirty?” He swirled his finger inside her.
All she could manage was a weak nod.
“Say it.”
“Oh God...Gabe.” She could barely get her tongue to work with what he was doing to her.
“I want to hear you say it.”
“Gabe…”
“You don’t get it if you don’t say it.” He brushed his wet tongue up her neck, inciting a riot inside her.
“I…I want it di…dirty.”

STEAL MY HEART was such a sexy and fun read, filled with quirky humor and laced with a little mystery - an excellent combo in my opinion. This is the second book I have read by author Lisa Eugene and I haven't been disappointed thus far. You can bet I will be stalking her shelf to see what she has in store for the future!

Review: Consequences

(Updated Review)

Consequences by Aleatha Romig

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

STOP THE MADNESS!!!

I get giddy just thinking about the level of excitement and frustration I felt when I first read CONSEQUENCES.  I was a little crazed by the "not knowing" what was going to happen next, but that is half the fun, right?  I struggled with wanting to strangle and hug Aleatha Romig for creating a story that elicited such powerful emotions in me.  I was one of the first people to review this book on Goodreads and according to the author, Aleatha Romig, I was the first blogger to ever post a review - WOW!  I have got to say, she writes a damn good story!

If you have not read CONSEQUENCES, then congratulations!  You have the pleasure of looking forward to beginning this insane roller coaster of a trilogy.  I am jealous!  You have a whole boat load of mystery, intrigue and sexy thrills ahead of you.  LUCKY YOU!  You don't have to wait for the second installment, because it is already out and the third and final book in the trilogy is due out somewhere in the September-ish (2013) time frame...

First of all, I feel the need to disclose that CONSEQUENCES is not a fun and fluffy book – entertaining, mysterious, scary and frustrating – yes, yes, yes and yes! NOT a story of goodness and light. Of-course, parts of the book are fun and sexy, but there is always a sinister undertone lurking in the background.

Brutalized and kidnapped by a handsome and wealthy psycho, Claire struggles with a wide range of emotions over a period of 2 years while being held captive - trapped in beautifully exquisite surroundings but a horrifically terrifying life.

As the book’s blurb says, it really does “unfold like a movie.” In fact, SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY came to mind a lot. Reading CONSEQUENCES was like being on an emotional rollercoaster and I am still reeling. I was constantly conflicted. The emotional and physical abuse Claire endured was painful to read – I was screaming at her to get a freaking grip and get the hell out! Then, at other times, I was really rooting for Anthony and Claire to make it as a couple. As I was reading, I tried to distance myself from the contents on the pages, but ultimately, the bold imagery forced me to internalize the emotion of the abused heroine – this must be similar to the feelings abused women go through. The emotions of despair and anxiety at having to constantly walk on eggshells in fear of upsetting the sensitive balance between loving elation and angry outbursts. It was exhausting.

I love it when the author throws the reader a curve ball and that is exactly what Aleatha Romig does in CONSEQUENCES. I was certain I knew what was going to happen then she totally yanked the rug right out from under me, knocking me on my ass and leaving me totally stunned.

Just as I teetered on the narrow ledge between sanity and insanity, I was saved by the release of the second book in the Consequences Trilogy.  Trust me when I say Aleatha really knows how to keep her readers on their toes!

Looking for a psychological thriller? Then you have found it! It’s a good one! CONSEQUENCES is definitely a book you have to read. I hope it evokes the same crazy emotions in you that it did in me and I hope you love it as much as I did!

Review: Truth

(Updated Review)

Truth by Aleatha Romig

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

By now, you have, no doubt, read CONSEQUENCES which is book one in this awesome trilogy, but if for some crazy reason you haven't, then by all means STOP READING THIS REVIEW and go read the first book or you will have absolutely no clue what the heck is going on.  And trust me!  You will definitely need all the clues that author Aleatha Romig is willing to give in order to figure out what the hell is happening!

The CONSEQUENCES Trilogy is one that kind of makes me a little nuts, but in a good way.  There are so many thrilling, scary and mysterious things going on that writing a review is kind of tough to do without giving anything away.  The story line is all engrossing and complex and I can guarantee that you will be sucked in from the very first page of the first book.

So now, we are approaching the release date of the third and final book, CONVICTED and I gotta tell ya, I am dying here, because it's been almost a year since I read this second book, TRUTH and honestly, the cliffhanger is a doozy!  Oh stop your whining, you've barely got two months to wait for the conclusion! So let's see if I can hook you without spoiling the story. . .

To say that Claire and Tony have a complicated relationship is quite possibly the understatement of the century. Since, by now, you all have read the first book in the trilogy, CONSEQUENCES, you are aware that Claire and Tony’s relationship did not begin as most “normal” love affairs do. In an effort to right the wrongs of the past by exacting revenge on those near and dear to the offenders, Tony kidnaps and brutalizes Claire for a period of 2 years. To the general public, Claire appears to have it all as Tony’s wife. After all, Tony is a debonair businessman any woman would be lucky to have as a companion and his is most certainly a prime catch as a husband, but as you know, looks can be very deceiving.

In TRUTH, author, Aleatha Romig continues to torment readers with the sweet torture of Claire and Tony’s story, a story that is so intricately woven you can scarcely blink an eye or you might miss something crucial.

Following Claire’s incarceration for the attempted murder of her husband, an angel bestows a great gift upon her in the form of a pardon. After serving 14 months in prison for a crime she probably did not commit, she is released from prison and granted a pardon from her crime, meaning that she is forgiven and in the eyes of the law, it never occurred – it is expunged from her record. I am saying she “probably did not commit this crime” because you never know what kind of monkey wrench Romig, is planning to throw into the final book, CONVICTED, being the wicked tale-teller she is, I cannot begin to fathom what she has up her sleeve - I am confident, however that she will find some way to shock us once again and I cannot wait!

Embracing her newfound gift of freedom, Claire endeavors to rebuild her life and uncover answers to the questions that have been weighing on the minds of all the players in this very risky game of life and revenge. Is the truth worth risking her life? CONSEQUENCES demonstrated that not all is not as it seems in the world surrounding Anthony Rawlings. TRUTH further solidifies that perception is not always reality. Can Claire distinguish friend from foe in time to save herself and the ones she loves? Only time will tell.

What an exhilarating ride! The players in this game of TRUTH were intense and charismatic, although new people were introduced, our old favorites we love to hate got plenty of face-time, namely Tony. If you like a twisty plot with loads of mysteries around every corner, then TRUTH is a must-read! It’s a thrilling and thought-provoking psychological thriller at it’s best! The wait for the final installment has been agonizing, but October (2013) is right around the corner and I am excited to finally have all the answers to my questions.
