Review: Insufferable Proximity

Insufferable Proximity
Insufferable Proximity by Z. Stefani

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Raise your hand if you like angry, passionate sex with the enemy. Well, maybe not in real life, but in the land of Erotica, it makes for some really smokin’ hot scenes! INSUFFERABLE PROXIMITY has all that and more!

When it comes to playing the field, Julian King has the market cornered – he effortlessly reels in a lot of spectacular tail on a very regular basis. He’s a big-wig lawyer with an even bigger ego and is accustomed to getting what he wants, when he wants it.

Enter mortal enemy and equally talented attorney, Heaven Deville. They are both in the running for partnership, but Heaven would do just about anything to prevent Julian from winning. Blinded by the need to win, Heaven has a momentary lapse in judgment making a fatal mistake that could cause her to lose everything she has worked so hard to accomplish.

The very kind and generous Julian *snicker* offers her a choice: he can turn her in and she will lose everything or she can turn herself over to him to do with as he pleases for the next 30 days. Decisions, decisions… Well, doesn’t seem like much of a choice if you ask me, but shockingly, Heaven mentally debates the matter and the competitor within her accepts the challenge confident that she can somehow outwit the competition once again.

INSUFFERABLE PROXIMITY was spectacular, especially if you love the sparring between two characters who are so obviously meant for each other but fight the attraction to the very last second. Seeing these two characters transform and bend to the other was extremely entertaining and oh-so hot! You have got to pick this up if you love a dominant hero and a strong-willed and feisty heroine.

NOTE: Self-Published indicates no “professional editing” has occurred. With the exception of some grammatical and spelling errors, author, Z. Stefani has done a great job of giving the reader a lovely finished product. I know some of you take off stars for editing errors, so I thought this was worth mentioning - if the story is appealing to you, please don’t let this deter you from snatching it up – the story is amazing. I can almost guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Review: All She Ever Wanted

All She Ever Wanted
All She Ever Wanted by Rosalind Noonan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when all you have ever wanted is a baby to make your family complete, then when that little bundle of joy arrives, all you can think about is getting as far away from the baby as you can?

ALL SHE EVER WANTED is a heart-breaking tale of a new mother suffering from postpartum depression. Chelsea Maynard was a firecracker in her former life…her life before motherhood. She had a sense of self-worth before the days of total exhaustion and dread due to being the primary caregiver to a screaming, colicky baby. She had a sense of purpose before the darkness consumed her every waking moment.

Chelsea knows she is not behaving as a normal healthy new mother should behave, but her pleas for help fall on deaf ears. To say that witnessing her despair and downward spiral is gut wrenching is a colossal understatement. Finally, when her worst nightmare as a parent becomes her reality, she begins to doubt her own mental stability and the lines between the dark thoughts in her head and actuality begin to blur and she cannot discern fact from fiction.

ALL SHE EVER WANTED is an unabashed glimpse into the mind of a woman suffering from severe depression following the birth of her child. This story will stay with you long after the final page is read and will leave you guessing until the very end. If you are searching for an emotional read, then look no further, because this is it!

Review: Making Him Sweat

Making Him Sweat
Making Him Sweat by Meg Maguire

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when the world as you once knew it comes crashing down around you and everything you thought was true about your life turns out to be a big-fat lie?

Jenna Wilinski is a romantic at heart. She is awesome at pairing up perfect love matches for everyone around her, but when it comes to her own love life…not so fantastic. When her estranged father suddenly passes away, she inherits the bedraggled old boxing club that he made into a home for many wayward boys and up and coming fighters, immediately, she knows this is her golden opportunity to fulfill her life long dream of becoming a professional matchmaker. Without much thought, she sets her plans in motion to close the gym and give the site a facelift worthy of an upscale match-making business. What she doesn’t count on is being punched in the gut by a strong case of lust when she first lays eyes on former pro-boxer turned boxing coach, Mercer Rowley.

Determined to make her dreams come true, Jenna dons her boxing gloves and intends to rumble with any of the rugged, sweaty male members of the club who attempt to sway her opinion – no matter how charming or sexy they may be. Well, you know what they say: ”the road to hell was paved with good intentions.” When Jenna finally removes the blinders for a moment, she catches a glimpse of what the gym and her father was really all about and begins to see the unrefined and sometimes intimidating fighters in a totally different light.

MAKING HIM SWEAT is the first installment in what I anticipate being a very popular, contemporary romance series. The characters are fantastic! Every last one of them will tug at even the most resistant heartstrings. Go ahead - snatch it up! If you enjoy a good story with a little sport theme thrown in and great chemistry among the characters, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed

Review: Witness Protection

Witness Protection
Witness Protection by Bec Botefuhr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

WITNESS PROTECTION is a super sexy psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge and of your seat panting for more!

When Maya Traydon sets out for her journey home one night, it ends up far from being a normal night as she ends up being witness to a murder being performed by a sadistic serial killer. In fear for her life and the safety of her loved ones, she agrees to go into a modified witness protection program – finding herself in a house where her protectors, Ryder and Nate, are hot, hunky and exuding so much sex appeal that she doesn’t know which will be the source of her downfall, the killer or the stifling pheromones oozing from the pores of her protectors.

While Nate plays good cop offering the comfort and sweetness she craves, Ryder is the bad boy who shocks her with his kinky dominant persona and oh-so-wicked ways awakening the sexual desires she didn’t know she possessed. As the killer gets closer to Maya, the intensity of the story revves up a few notches and everyone’s protective instincts kick in resulting in a satisfying and exciting conclusion.

WITNESS PROTECTION will definitely be going on my “new favorites” list! I can’t wait to see more stories like this by author Bec Botefuhr - I will most certainly be checking out some of her other stories. You may have picked this one up for free in December 2012, I didn’t, but I was fortunate enough to snag it on Amazon for free as a prime member – if these aren’t options for you, then it’s definitely worth the $2.99 digital price! Enjoy!

Review: Above the Dungeon

Above the Dungeon
Above the Dungeon by SM Johnson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I loved the complicated dynamics between the characters in ABOVE THE DUNGEON - they have a very unique and non-traditional sexual relationship. For the most part, I liked all the characters, but Jeff's character was really working my nerves with his self-absorbed attitude and selfish persona.

I am looking forward to checking out the second installment - I am under the impression that it is very different from this first book.

Review: Love on the Rocks

Love on the Rocks
Love on the Rocks by Kara Leigh Miller

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

At The Aurora Island Resort something magical taints the tropical air, especially for those visitors who are most resistant to love.
LOVE ON THE ROCKS is the second book in the sexy series set on a beautiful and secluded island that is apparently infested with “love bugs” and once they sink their teeth in, you’re a goner.
Meghan MaCayan can’t wait for her two-week all-expense paid vacation to the beautiful resort to attend her best friend’s wedding. The only problem is, she’s knows her friend’s brother, Jeff will be attending the ceremony as well – he crushed her heart many years ago and she is determined to pull out all the stops to protect her fragile heart from breaking all over again.

Heartbreaker, Jeff is determined to conquer the heart of the only woman he has ever loved and makes quick work of tearing down that protective wall Meghan has built around her heart.

LOVE ON THE ROCKS can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the first book in the series to really get to know the characters that have a recurring role in this second installment. If you are looking for a little sweet and sexy quickie, then this is one story you have got to add to your collection!

Review: Rule

Rule
Rule by Jay Crownover

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hot Damn! Rule is a deliciously bad, bad boy! Sweet Shaw is a good little rich girl trying hard to please everyone but herself. So, what sweet girl doesn't like the idea of a bad boy? What happend when that "idea" turns into reality? I will tell you exactly what happens... a whole lotta hotness!

Shaw Landon has been in love with Rule Archer FOREVER! She's been drooling over him inside, but hides her lust behind the disgusted scowl she wears on her face when around him. When she finally decides to take the mask off, the questions start flying. Her explanation to her friend about their budding relationship is "it's complicated" - Ha! That is the understatement of the century! Her friend sums it up way better than I ever could have:

"Oh honey when they look like that and exude that kind of do-me, do-me it always will be."

Yeah, it's complicated, but it is sexy and fun. Along with all the ink on his body and metal in his face and *ahem* err... other places, comes the bad boy attitude and type of dominance and possessiveness that makes other boys definitely NOT want to fuck with his woman!

He thinks being in Shaw's life for good means he has to clean up his act, but what she really wants is the man she has loved her entire life. Being good is tough and being bad comes easy for Rule.

" ...I’ve been minding all my p’s and q’s and let me tell ya I had no idea how many of those little fuckers there were..."

Get it, because it is a fun and sexy ready and loved it down to the last page!

Review: The Love of My (Other) Life

The Love of My (Other) Life
The Love of My (Other) Life by Traci L. Slatton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE is a classic example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover!

A fair comparison would be picking up a glass and chugging what you think is water only to find that it’s vodka! The cover makes me think “erotic, ” but what you really get is a sweet romance with an interesting storyline – although the lack of steam was surprising, it was enjoyable all the same. I was also please to find there is actually a reason behind such an erotic cover for a book that is more romantic in nature.

When starving artist, Tessa Barnum is initially approached by the crazy homeless man claiming they are married in an alternate universe, she does what any sane person would do: she runs away as fast as her feet can carry her! The scruffy looking Brian Tennyson cannot be so easily deterred as there are many reasons he has traversed hyperspace and defied the laws of nature, so he continues on in a persistent manner until he finally grabs her attention.

I was convinced I knew how THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE would end, but surprise, surprise! I was wrong! If you like the idea of another “you” existing in a parallel universe, a little mystery and some romance weaved into a good story, then THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE will be a treat to read.

Review: The Nightlife: Las Vegas

The Nightlife: Las Vegas
The Nightlife: Las Vegas by Travis Luedke

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Drama, action and lots of pleasure, that’s what THE NIGHTLIFE: LAS VEGAS is all about!

THE NIGHTLIFE: LAS VEGAS picks up where the first book in the series, THE NIGHTLIFE: NEW YORK leaves off in a continuation of the story of Vampire Master, Michelle and her loyal, but disobedient side-kick and vampire servant, Aaron. Who ever said ‘all things in moderation’ didn’t know what they were talking about, but we’re talking about Vegas baby and for Michelle and Aaron’s sake, I really hope ‘what happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas’ or else the rest of their long lives are doomed!

Remembering how poorly she was treated by her Vampire Master, Michelle lets a lot of things slide with Aaron in an effort to not control him, but her hesitance to pull the choke chain lands them in a heap of trouble when a third lover named Anastasia is added to mix, as a human bloodslave. Once things begin to spiral out of control, their weak human pet just adds another hassle they do not need in their crazy effed-up lives. I wasn’t a fan of Anastasia’s story line. I thought she was weak and a bit whiney, but Michelle is a dominant female, so, I suppose having 2 kick-ass, strong-willed heroines wouldn’t have been as interesting and the damsel in distress is appealing to many.

This installment of THE NIGHTLIFE series has a totally different vibe when compared to books 1 and 3 – yes, I skipped around, but you will definitely want to read THE NIGHTLIFE: NEW YORK before reading this second book. Though I was disappointed with the path Michelle’s character followed, I still loved this dynamic-duo as a whole. Staying true to the author’s description, THE NIGHTLIFE: LAS VEGAS is reminiscent of “The Hangover” and “True Blood” and definitely never boring.

If paranormal reads of the vampire variety get you going, then you definitely have to read THE NIGHTLIFE series – I can guarantee you will not be bored!

Review: Monet Love, An Erotic Love Story

Monet Love, An Erotic Love Story
Monet Love, An Erotic Love Story by Blue Knight

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

MONET LOVE, AN EROTIC LOVE STORY is a fun and sexy read sure to kick your libido up a few notches.

Monet is a single nurse looking for Mr. Right, but in the meantime, Mr. Right Now is looking pretty good to her. This “erotic love story” is basically laid out into three accounts that finally leads to Monet finding the “man of her dreams.”

I found the concept of the format interesting. It was like 3 stories about the same characters with time lapse in between the stories. I liked it, but I would have liked to have gotten to know the characters a little more in the fade to black sections.

MONET LOVE is sure to please if you are in the mood for a hot quickie.

Review: Rhianna

RhiannaRhianna by Amanda L.V. Shalaby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you want to read a book that breathes historic romance and has the same gorgeous, lyrical writing as all your favorite classics, then look no further than RHIANNA. Amanda L.V. Shalaby delivers an amazing, fully developed story with twists and turns that keep you captivated while maintaining all of the beautiful writing of times old. She develops a slow-building love story that keeps you wanting more while sharing a tale filled with mystery and suspense.

Rhianna has never felt close to her parents; so at the news of their deaths, she feels only guilt at her lack of emotions. Lord Guilford Kingsley delivers the news in person and offers his home as Rhianna returns to England to fulfill her family duties. She soon finds herself immersed in the Kingsley's lives as governess of Kingsley's daughter. More importantly, she meets Lord Thayne Brighton, who she fights her developing feelings for knowing he'd never marry someone of her station. All of this is told under an air of mystery as the author slowly provides other information that shows the reader all is not as it seems.

The reader is swept up in both the mystery surrounding Rhianna's parentage and the romance between Rhianna and Lord Brighton, both equally interesting and all-encompassing. My only complaint, and mind you it doesn't stop me from giving this read a full 5 stars, was Rhianna's decision to run into danger not once but twice in the latter part of the book, which I would have forgiven but her excuse was so ridiculous and trivial that I couldn't help but fume at the typical girl in a book doing something they're told not to only to require saving by the male lead. Still, this book was wonderful and different and a must read for lovers of historical fiction.

Review: The Nightlife: New York

The Nightlife: New York
The Nightlife: New York by Travis Luedke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Travis Luedke writes like a woman… and I mean that in the most complimentary way! If you have followed my reviews, then you know I have historically steered clear of male erotic or romance authors, but over the past year, I have become less discriminating and given more books written by men a shot and I’ll be the first to admit, I have not been disappointed. But that’s not really what this review is about, so… back to the matter at hand, the book!

THE NIGHTLIFE: NEW YORK is chocked full of naughty characters and I mean naughty in every sense of the word – dirty cops and pimps who need to be taught a lesson, along with strippers, hookers and pimps and let us not forget the VAMPIRES!

After many years of solitude, Michelle, the French vampire seductress and escort extraordinaire finds herself in a precarious situation when she encounters Aaron, a fragile human male on the verge of death. Does she leave him for dead or help him along into the world of the supernatural? Decisions, decisions… Turning him into a vampire will force an eternal bond and a responsibility to him and their secret world that she is just not sure she is willing to take on. On the other hand, mastering another could certainly has its perks, so, proving she hasn’t lost all her humanity, she saves him, while at the same time, bonding him to her for eternity. Michelle and Aaron’s journey into the unknown was sexy and exciting to watch as the drama of their new lives together unfolded.

THE NIGHTLIFE: NEW YORK proves, true to Travis Luedke’s description that “the Nightlife of New York is never boring.“ Can self-control and indulgence go hand-in-hand? Yes, apparently it can and I am game for a lot more of both! With a bevy of interesting characters and a fantastic story, you are sure to come back for a second helping of what author, Travis Luedke is dishing out – I certainly did!

Review: Blood Slave

Blood Slave
Blood Slave by Travis Luedke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It’s official; I am hooked on THE NIGHTLIFE series.

As an escort for the Colombian cartel, Hope was forced into a life of servitude at an early age. Having accepted her life as a sex worker, Hope embraces her destiny and excels as a glorified hooker with a little help from her telepathic abilities. All is well until a seemingly perfect night of sin turns her life upside down, transferring her enslavement from a notorious Cartel boss to a Vampire Master named Enrique. Survival used to mean staying in line and following the law of the Cartel, but now, her survival is reliant on something very different and that “something” scares her on many levels.

As Hope is ripped from her life as she once knew it, she quickly adapts to the ways of the paranormal world while struggling to understand the feelings she has for her new master – are these feelings real or are they a result of her bond to her master as his personal Blood Slave? As her quest for understanding unfolds, it becomes abundantly clear that her life is in danger and deciphering friend from foe will take a lot more than the telepathic abilities she has relied on her entire life.

BLOOD SLAVE, the third book in THE NIGHTLIFE series is consistent with the theme of book one… where over-indulgence, illegal activity and vampires lurk in darkness when night falls on the city. The ensemble of wickedly sexy and disobedient characters are an interesting assortment that you will love and love to hate – even the villains have endearing moments. BLOOD SLAVE is another winning read if deceit, sex and paranormal tales appeal to you.

Review: Lucky Bitch

Lucky Bitch
Lucky Bitch by Deidre Blue

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

LUCKY BITCH is a quickie naughty read about bratty-bitch that gets schooled by a handsome-hottie who is no stranger to spoiled brats and has no tolerance for them.

I liked the premise of the story, but it was just too short! I wanted more!! There are lots of places this story could go and just when I started getting to know the characters, it was over. I would really urge the author to continue on with the characters and story line in a longer novella – is that in the cards Ms. Deidre Blue?

If you are looking for a hot scene with some sexy characters, then this 22-page story might do the trick for you!

Review: One Night with a Hero

One Night with a Hero (The Hero, #2)One Night with a Hero by Laura Kaye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

ONE NIGHT WITH A HERO is a heart-warming story of two people who've been hurt in the past that rise above it all to risk love with each other.

Brady Scott meets Joss Daniels when he's home on leave from the Army after letting his anger get the best of him. They both feel an immediate attraction and agree to one lust-filled night with no strings attached. This agreement becomes complicated when they realize the next day that they are actually next-door neighbors.

The beginning started off a bit one-dimensional for me, the situation just wasn't coming alive for me the way some books do. As I got further in though, I began to feel the story expand and gain depth and I could feel the walls of the townhome surround me as I pictured Joss and Brady together. Every once in a while, Brady gets a little alpha male, particularly during sex scenes, which I particularly appreciated. Near the end he does some amazing things that are beyond romantic, the kind of things only guys in love stories do, and I found myself tearing up and/or laughing out loud.

If you're looking for a light read with some internal battles followed by sweet romance and a happily-ever-after, this is your book.

Review: Undercover Lover

Undercover Lover (Covert Attractions #2)Undercover Lover by Tibby Armstrong
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Tibby Armstrong writes in such a way that the story and characters come alive.

Being the sister of a famous musician may sound like a dream come true for most people, but to Jenny Ainsley, it's more hassle and headache than anything else. After a rough childhood with a dad who was involved with the wrong people, Jenny spends her life trying to blend in and rely solely on herself. But when her brother's fame brings unwanted attention, he demands that she stay in his New York penthouse while he's out of town.

The story flows and you get swept up in the action. The only thing that kept me from being able to fully immerse myself in the book was confusion. This may be because I did not read the first book in the series, Sheet Music, and so I would definitely suggest that anyone reading this story read Sheet Music first.

However, my impression from Sheet Music's description is that it is primarily about David (Jenny's brother) and I found a lot of my confusion coming from Gunter's past mission in Dublin and his consequent decisions. So whether reading the first book would have cleared everything up for me I cannot say. I also felt like some of the decisions and actions even later in the story weren't explained clearly or properly and I can say with full confidence that those had nothing to do with not having read the first book in the series.

I think that while Undercover Lover had a fun concept and great characters with hot, steamy moments between Jenny and Gunter, the actual storyline and study into the world of espionage was a bit under-developed or inefficiently explained.

UNDERCOVER LOVER is a good choice for people who've read Sheet Music and are looking for a new steamy relationship evolving from secondary characters they met in that book.

Review: Love Revealed

Love Revealed (The Market Series, Book 1)Love Revealed by Sorcha Mowbray
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

LOVE REVEALED is not your mom’s historical romance. It is mostly hot lava sex with a little bit of story mixed in. But then, it’s a novella so there’s only so much time allotted and given that, the author certainly accomplishes a major heat factor in a short amount of time. If you like historical romance and erotica combined, this is a steamy, quick read.

Lady Katherine Drummond (Kat) was burned by society after her husband died of syphilis and she is assumed to have it as well. Since she knows there is no way she contracted her husband’s disease, she finds respite at The Market, where she can live out her sexual fantasies while remaining masked and disguised from the other participants.

Lord Raymond Tarkenton (Heath) has dark sexual needs that he can’t ask a woman of his circle to fulfill so he also finds The Market is a place of refuge where he can be himself without fear of judgment.

The two partner several times at The Market before deciding on an exclusive sexual relationship, only to later realize they are acquaintances in real life as well.

I actually think this novella would have been great as a full-length novel. The real-life relationship could have been explored further and would have made the story that much better. But for a novella I thought the author did a good job of writing a sexy story without making it unbelievable when it came to the speed in which the characters had to develop emotional attachments and feelings for each other. My actual rating is 3.5 stars due to the amazingly hot scenes that had me completely immersed in the story.

THE STORIES OF ISOLDE: HER MASTER’S DOMAIN is the first in a series of novellas about a young girl named Isolde who applies for a position as a servant and finds herself the new chambermaid of a lord who suffers from a mysterious affliction that keeps him close to home (and his chambermaids) at all times.

I thought Belle de Jour did a great job with the world-building of this novella. Her descriptions paint a colorful picture and the reader can fully imagine the world Isolde enters. I thought the descriptions of Sir Rhys (the lord) however were rather vague and left him very flat. As a result, I didn’t believe Isolde when she described desiring him and it lacked the passion I usually enjoy in the erotica genre. It almost felt to me like the book was written with a male reader in mind - the way Isolde’s reactions and the sex scenes were described. I also would have liked for Sir Rhys’ affliction to be demonstrated in more depth – it didn’t seem like such an affliction to me but perhaps that will be further explored in the second book in the series.

All in all, I think the series has potential as the concept is good and the author has a flair for very colorful descriptions of the world. I’m hoping the second book in the series develops stronger three-dimensional characters and that the erotica aspect gets a little edgier and passionate.
