#REVIEW 5 AH-MAZING STARS for No Accounting for Cowboys by @LeahBraemel

No Accounting for Cowboys (The Grady Legacy, #2)No Accounting for Cowboys by Leah Braemel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Family history has a way of impacting the way we feel about others around us or even worse causing us to judge others for their family’s history rather than their own actions. When you meet a random person at the bar you never stop to think about any of that until much later. Paige and Jake “JT” get to discover that sometimes attraction is the easy part, can they work through their family’s histories?

Paige is an under appreciated accountant at her aunt’s firm but determined to prove her worth. Reba, her aunt, finally gives her a break. She gives her the Grady job and says if she proves herself on this job that she’ll secure her position within the company. Jake is singing at the bar when her aunt gives her this job over dinner. Paige and Jake start talking between song sets and discover they both have a common love, motorcycles. They play hard to get before he finally gives her his number, hoping she’ll give him a call. Paige decides after she finishes her first day for her new client she’ll give him a call as a way to celebrate. But when she walks into the office she discovers he is one of her new clients! Slowly her past is revealed and Jake accepts it, even if her father is horrified by her association with the Gradys. The longer she works for the Gradys the more of Jake’s past comes out. Jake isn’t exactly who he thought he was and it’s a hard pill for him to swallow. At the same time Jake gets offered a music contract. Can their relationship survive him being on the road all the time and can Jake accept who he really is before it destroys them?

As the first book I’ve ever read by Leah Braemel I was very pleasantly surprised. The flow of NO ACCOUNTING FOR COWBOYS was amazing. While I can guess what the first book in this series is about, I at no point felt like I was missing anything by reading NO ACCOUNTING FOR COWBOYS first. NO ACCOUNTING FOR COWBOYS definitely stands on its own. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for something more than your traditional romance.

#Review: The Affair by @ColetteFreedman 4 Stars

The Affair (The Affair, #1)The Affair by Colette Freedman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What could possibly drive someone to have an affair? When you really sit down and think about it, you can think of many reasons and ways it could happen. If it did would you know what how you wanted to handle it? Would you end the relationship or would you stay? What about the children, the house, and anything else mutually owned? Is it really so easy to say what you would do? I think we’d all say “yes,” we’d leave, that we wouldn’t stand for our spouse having an affair. Colette Freedman makes you wonder if it really is that simple.

THE AFFIAR starts with the wife’s story and how an innocent act led to her being suspicious of an affair. After talking to friends she decides she has to find proof before she can talk to her husband about it. Kathy starts by going through his home office, his email and eventually going through his work office. Just when she thinks she’s wrong and jumping to irrational conclusions she finds the proof she’s been looking for. Kathy takes it one step further and finds a way to see it with her own eyes. We then get to see the husband’s side of the story and lastly the mistress's. At the end of THE AFFAIR we see the confrontation of wife and mistress and the way they both force the husband to sit down and talk to them so that they can decide which relationship will survive. Will he choose to stay with his wife? Will he decide his mistress is better? Will the mistress let him pick her? Does the wife even want him to stay? Can you guess what happens?

I loved how THE AFFAIR was written. At first you feel sorry for the wife, then you see the husband’s side and realize it’s not that cut and dry, but once you see the mistress’s side you are left wanting it to work out for everyone. Colette Freedman weaves a tale that forces you to see that not every story is cut and dry. Yes the husband cheated, yes the mistress knew the husband was married, but she shows that both the husband and the wife had a part in their marriage deteriorating to the point of both of them being unhappy. The only reason I couldn’t give THE AFFAIR a full 5 stars is because conversations seen from one person’s point of view are repeated, word for word, in the husband’s story or the mistress's. Not all of these conversations were short and I had trouble not skimming ahead to hear what he or she was thinking rather than rereading a conversation I’d already read once. THE AFFAIR is definitely worth reading especially if you think you KNOW what you’d do if your spouse ever cheated or even if you’re happy within your relationship.

#Review: Blood Flows Deep in the Empire

Blood Flows Deep in the Empire (The Szolites, #1)Blood Flows Deep in the Empire by N. Isabelle Blanco
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Do Gods exist and if so how much power over us do they really have? Do we really have any control over our fate and destiny or is it already decided for us? BLOOD FLOWS DEEP IN THE EMPIRE gives us a peek into what could happen if Gods are real and could fall in love like everyone else.

Salicyar / Dyletri (God of Fertility) is angry with with Aviraji (the corrupt gods) for destroying the woman he cares about and makes a vow to the Fates to sacrifice an innocent in order to get Diminithia back. However, he must wait 11,000 years before he can get her back. Ismini is that innocent. She’s dreamt about Dyletri sacrificing her most of her life thanks to Nylicia (Watcher of Destinies). She has accepted her fate despite having fallen for the man in her dreams, Dyletri. But when she ends up bonded to Dyletri to the point of it hurting her physically she choses to hide it from him because she believe he’s in love with Diminithia and her destiny is to be sacrificed.

Dyletri is forced to decide if he cares about Ismini or Diminithia and if he chooses Ismini over Diminithia what is he going to do? He promised the Fates Ismini’s soul so he could get Diminithia back but is destiny changing because he is falling for Ismini?

While I loved the concept of Gods being a part of our fate and destiny, I didn’t feel as if the Gods in BLOOD FLOWS DEEP IN THE EMPIRE were well thought out as far as mannerisms go. The Gods had their purposes and fit the personalities they were given but I didn’t feel as if they sounded like beings that had been around for hundreds of thousands of years. Their thoughts came out more like your average every day person and in my mind Gods (with experience and wisdom beyond our years) wouldn’t think like us. While this didn’t detract from the storyline, it had an effect on the feel of the story. I also thought that the love scenes could have had a bit more to them, though the last one was done very well. While I feel there may be some rough edges, I enjoyed the storyline enough to pick up the next book in the series.

In this battle of fate versus destiny N. Isabelle Blanco gives us her version of just how much fate doesn’t always equal destiny. She creates an image of Gods and how our universe was created delivering a story that entertains.

#Review: Need by @Sherri_Hayes 4 STARS

Need (Finding Anna, #2)Need by Sherri Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**This is Book #2 in the Finding Anna Series

Can Brianna ever overcome everything that was done to her when she was a slave? Will Stephan manage to help her beat back her demons or will they prove to be too much to get past? NEED continues their story and all the obstacles they face as they try to figure out exactly what Brianna needs.

The story picks up right where it left off. Stephan, Lilly and Logan have all helped Brianna come to understand what being a submissive is and she wants to be Stephan’s submissive. Brianna’s comfort level with Stephan is increasing daily and with it she’s learning to communicate more effectively. Stephan is gradually introducing her to social situations so that she will be able to return to school alone and attend classes without having a panic attack. Stephan has promised Brianna he will not have sex with her until she wants it and asks him for it. Stephan slowly pampers her and introduces her to what it feels like to want something so bad you NEED it. Can she get past all the rape and torture so that she can get to the point of wanting sex? Or is it too much to get through when her past keeps haunting her?

Sherri Hayes does a beautiful job of continuing Brianna and Stephan’s story. Many steps were taken towards healing Brianna in this story as well as strengthening and improving Brianna and Stephan’s relationship. Brianna’s issues are handled perfectly. And she leaves you wanting more! Can’t wait to read the next book.

#Review: The S-Word

The S-WordThe S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me." I know I heard this nursery rhyme over and over again when I was growing up, but in this world that’s not always so easy. High school tests every teenager and most learn that the power of a single word really can turn someone’s life upside down.

In THE S-WORD, Lizzie Hart was Angie’s best friend since kindergarten until prom night screwed everything up. Angie caught Lizzie cheating with her boyfriend, Drake. Lizzie became branded a slut and Angie couldn’t bring herself to ever ask Lizzie why. Lizzie couldn’t take what was happening any longer and committed suicide. After Lizzie’s death and seeing “slut" transformed into “suicide slut”, Angie becomes determined to find out why Lizzie did it, especially as copies of Lizzie’s diary pages start being stuffed in lockers. She starts interrogating people and finding out who originally branded Lizzie as a slut, who made Lizzie drop out of the play, who tagged Lizzie’s car, who sent out a mass email with a nude painting of Lizzie and what really happened on prom night. Can Angie handle the truth? Can she discover the truth without turning her back on everyone around her? Or is Lizzie’s life just going to be summed up with the words “suicide slut”?

I wanted to love THE S-WORD but most of the story I was left with wanting more. Suicide seems to be a popular topic among young adult novels, yet finding a unique twist on it is rare. For over half of THE S-WORD I was left wondering how this was any different than the other young adult books of this type out there. Finally in the last quarter of THE S-WORD I saw the difference between THE S-WORD and all the others, but I was left wondering why it took so long. So in the end, while the message being conveyed in THE S-WORD was great and I definitely enjoyed it, I still wanted more out of it.

#Review: Painted Blind @michelleahansen 4 Stars

Painted BlindPainted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Every girl dreams of the man she’ll fall in love with, sometimes to the point of obsession. But what if, when you finally bump into him, you can’t see his face? What if he’s invisible to you? Could you fall in love without ever seeing him? PAINTED BLIND paints a beautiful picture of falling in love for all the right reasons and just how far you’d go just to see each other again.

Psyche just wants to have a normal senior year, including a date to homecoming and prom. She hopes that no one will find out she spent her summer modeling or worse that she seems to be nude in one of her shots. Aphrodite is angry over the ad Psyche did because she sees it as a mockery. She orders her son, Eros to fix it. Eros ends up needing to help Psyche escape the paparazzi and takes her into his realm. He has one condition and that condition is that she cannot see him. He tells her he will remain invisible, which means he cannot enter his realm during the day, only at night.

Psyche caves to curiosity and worry; she breaks Eros’s rule and sees his face. He banishes her from his realm. Psyche fights with Aphrodite for a second chance with Eros. Aphrodite sends Psyche on impossible tasks hoping she’ll fail. She must not see or speak to Eros until the tasks are complete. Psyche is determined to succeed; she must see Eros again. Psyche goes all around the world and into the Underworld in order to get Eros back, all to keep a love that she found when she was blind to what he really was.

PAINTED BLIND had me reluctant to put this book down from page one, I was intrigued and enjoying every second of it. It did leave me wanting more from the supporting characters. I felt that if a little bit more detail had been given to them, especially for as much as Psyche has to rely on them during her tasks, it would have made this excellent story even better. If the gods of Greek mythology interest you at all, PAINTED BLIND will keep you intrigued. Even if you’re not big on Greek mythology the love story Michelle Hansen paints with PAINTED BLIND is one for everyone.

#Review: Claimed by @Stacey_Kennedy 5 Stars

Claimed (Club Sin, #1)Claimed by Stacey Kennedy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We all have our secret desires and fantasies that we can only dream of having, CLAIMED gives us not just more fuel for those desires and fantasies, but the feeling that we can make the dreams into reality. CLAIMED draws you in from the very beginning and leaves you desperate for more.

Presley is your sweet, innocent and too trusting best friend that is down on her luck. She’s recently kicked her boyfriend/fiancé to the curb after 8 long years together because she caught him cheating and moved in with her best friend Cora. Cora has discovered Presley’s secret desire and has talked Presley into going to talk to the owner of Club Sin, Dmitri. Presley is scared and afraid but knows she desperately wants to face her desires and see if it really is what she wants and not just a fantasy. She knows Cora is a member there, so it has to be safe.

Dmitri is the owner of Club Sin as well as a casino on the strip in Vegas. He created Club Sin by his rules so that he could have the lifestyle and private life he so desired without the worry of things going wrong. Club Sin is a Dominance / submission club that you can only join by invite only. Dmitri hasn’t had a submissive in years, but something about Presley makes him break all of his rules.

Presley joins Club Sin and Dmitri becomes her Dom. He slowly introduces her to the lifestyle of BDSM and takes the time to find out what her limits are. He knows they’re both working well together like they’re a perfect fit but he’s trying not to dwell on it. If he does, he might have to admit that she could possibly be more to him than just another submissive. Presley breaks some of the rules and has to learn the hard way why you listen to your Dom but she takes it well.

Like every love story there is a curve ball. Presley is unable to stand up for herself, especially when it comes to her ex-boyfriend and how he hurt her. Dmitri finds a way to help her discover her inner strength so that she can love herself and trust herself enough to not allow the ex to continue to hurt her. But he has to get her to do it not because he ordered her to, because she won’t put up with it anymore. Dmitri doesn’t feel that dominance and submission play should ever leave the bedroom. Dmitri says the right things and Presley realizes Dmitri truly sees her and he has settled the part of her that feels like she needs to please everyone. Presley finds herself becoming a stronger person and happier as well. Now they just have to take the next step and go from being in just a dominant / submissive relationship to even more.

CLAIMED was amazing from the first page to the last. The story flowed smoothly and had characters that were relatable in almost every way. I would definitely read more by Stacey Kennedy. If I had to find something I didn’t like it would be how fast Dmitri switches from calling her doll to calling her love. But that’s so minor that it didn’t affect the quality of the story in the slightest.

#Review: Enticed by His Forgotten Lover by @maya_banks 4 Stars

Enticed by His Forgotten Lover (Pregnancy & Passion, #1)Enticed by His Forgotten Lover by Maya Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Every woman dreams of the man she’ll fall in love with, the one she’ll settle down with to create a family. We crave that overwhelming feeling of being loved and cared for, but what if he disappears after promising to return to you soon? Would you sit and wait for him or would you go chasing after him? Can things ever be the same after finding out why he never returned and do you want them to be? Or is it better to move on and raise the baby you’re carrying alone.

Bryony made a deal with Rafael to sell the land that has been in her family for years under the verbal agreement that he wouldn’t develop it. Rafael disappeared after this agreement and try as she might she couldn’t contact him. She heads off to New York City to confront him for disappearing. What she discovers is a man that no longer remembers who she is and finds it hard to believe she’s carrying his child. Rafael is intrigued by the story Bryony tells him of how they met and their time together and feels she’s the key to curing his amnesia from his horrific plane crash. Bryony’s worst fear is that he really did lie to her and he never cared about her. Rafael is shocked by the man she continues to describe to him and how they spent their time when he was with her. The man she describes doesn’t sound like him in the slightest, but the more time he spends with her the more he falls for her and knows she’s carrying his child. But what about the land she sold him. Did he really agree to not develop it? Can he keep Bryony without losing the respect of his business partners and friends by halting the resort he has set to be built on the land? Or will it all come crashing down on them when he finally remembers their time together?

Maya Banks makes you fall in love with Rafael and Bryony so quickly that you almost don’t want to know what really happened during their original time together. ENTICED BY HIS FORGOTTEN LOVER makes you hope for a happily ever after from the very beginning. Had it not been somewhat predictable, I could have given this one a full 5 star rating. If you’re looking for something a bit different than your traditional romance then I definitely recommend this one.

#Review: Truth by @Sherri_Hayes 4 STARS

Truth (Finding Anna, #3)Truth by Sherri Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**This is Book #3 in the Finding Anna Series

Brianna and Stephan’s story continues in TRUTH. We all know the truth isn’t always pretty and it’s not always what we think it is. The truth can be a hard pill to swallow; especially when it’s the truth behind something horrible that happened to someone you love.

TRUTH starts with Brianna answering the door to find her father on the other side and Stephan rushing home to try and save her before John takes her away. Stephan manages to save Brianna and chase John off, but not before John reveals that he had no idea what had happened to Brianna. In fact, John assumes she’s been with Stephan for the entire year she’s been “missing”. Stephan has his lawyer working on uncovering the truth behind Ian Pierce and his illegal connections as well as obtaining a restraining order for Brianna against her father. His lawyer, Oscar, warns Stephan that Brianna living with him is going to look really bad if he wants to turn Ian Pierce over to the authorities. He did buy Brianna after all. Meanwhile Brianna is making huge steps forward with becoming more comfortable around people and in public. Brianna and Stephan are both falling in love with each other. Can they handle telling each other the truth? Will they be able to survive John’s wrath when he will do anything to get Brianna back? Or will the truth be too much to handle?

Once again Sherri Hayes has left me desperate to start the next book. My heart is breaking for these two characters. TRUTH forces readers and the characters both to face the reality of the situation. Stephan bought Brianna and if he wishes to make sure Ian Pierce is dealt with, then he will also have to admit he bought her. TRUTH shows us just how far some of us will go to help those we love.

#Review: Slave by @Sherri_Hayes 4 STARS

Slave (Finding Anna, #1)Slave by Sherri Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sold into a world of sexual slavery and never having an opinion sounds absolutely horrifying. Reality would be even worse than we could imagine. Can a person who has ever lived in this world adjust to real life again or would they forever be damaged? SLAVE shows us what can happen when sexual slavery is done without concern for the “slave” involved.

Stephan has lunch with a friend who tells him about Brianna. He believes Brianna is being held as a sexual slave against her will and he knows Stephan not only has the money to “buy” her but the will to help her. Stephan is appalled by the idea of buying anyone but he agrees to at least go see the girl for himself. If he decides she’s being held against her will he will buy her. After meeting Brianna, Stephan knows he must save the poor girl. After buying her, he brings her home and realizes it’s going to be a rough adjustment. Brianna is use to living a life of only being allowed to do something after she’s been told to do it and without an order will not move. He refuses to treat Brianna poorly and while he knows she sees him as her new master and herself as his slave, he hopes that he can change that. One day he wants Brianna to make her own decisions and choices.

Brianna doesn’t know what to think of her new master. She loves the new freedoms he gives her and that he seems to only want to take care of her. She doesn’t know if she can trust Stephan though and her panic attacks threaten to stand in the way. Slowly she realizes she can trust him enough to be soothed by him and let him calm her when she has a panic attack. She even starts to tell him about the torture her first master put her through, the ones that only left emotional scars. She knows he can see the physical ones but those weren’t the worst forms of torture. Will Brianna stay when she finds out Stephan will let her be free if that’s what she really wants or will she go because she wants to be her own person?

SLAVE is not a story for the faint of heart. BDSM has it’s great aspects but there are cases where people take it too far. Sherri Hayes explores one of those ways in SLAVE. I think her approach on how to help Brianna recover from the emotional and psychological damage of sexual slavery is appropriate, though not what everyone would do. Your heart will ache for Brianna and you will praise Stephan for how he saves Brianna and tries to build her back up again. SLAVE is not your typical romance but you will fall in love with the characters of this book. As soon as you finish SLAVE, you’ll want the next book in the series and you’ll be hoping for a happily ever after for them both.

#Review: Death of the Mad Hatter by @sarahjpepper 4 Stars

Death of the Mad HatterDeath of the Mad Hatter by Sarah J. Pepper
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Everyone knows the story of Alice in Wonderland, but what if the story was darker than we imagined? Would you be able to wrap your mind around a sadistic Joker, a truly cold-hearted queen and a sane Mad Hatter? What if Alice worked for the queen? Dive down the rabbit hole and see if you can wrap your head around THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER.

Once upon a time Alice fell down a rabbit hole and met Mad Hatter (M.H.) and many other wondrous creatures. She begins to work for M.H., taking sweets to Robby, the brother of the dead king. When the queen finds out, she beheads M.H. and gets Alice to do whatever she wants, including bring her Robby’s son, Ryley. Ryley is the true heir to the throne so the Queen wants him dead.

Ryley has no idea what Alice is up to, but he knows it’s very hard for him to stop thinking about her when she shows up at school as a new student. He becomes obsessed with her even though she infuriates him. Alice’s goal is to make Ryley fall in love with her so that he’ll follow her into Wonderland of his own free will. As Ryley slowly discovers more and more about Wonderland he starts to beg Alice to take him there. Eventually she does, but things don’t exactly go as planned. Will the queen succeed in beheading Ryley or will Ryley end the queen’s reign? What will happen to Alice? Can there be a happily ever after?

THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER was an interesting spin on characters we all know and love. Alice’s heart will win you over despite the fact she continuously makes wrong decisions. Ryley is an interesting addition to the bunch and you can’t help but feel for him. The only reason I’m not in love with THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER is because the ending felt rushed. There was an incredible amount of build up over Ryley and how the queen wanted his head so it was a major disappointment to me when it wrapped up so quickly. I also wanted a little bit more of the Mad Hatter. Overall THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER is a great way to fall in love with the characters of Wonderland all over again.

Summary

Brianna is lost for the fourth time in her life. Each time was unexpected, and each changed the course of her future. The first life-altering event occurred when her mother died, and she moved to Minnesota to live with her father.
The second was when she was kidnapped at the age of seventeen and forced to be a slave. She would never forget those ten months. Brianna thought her life was over.
Everything changed again the day Stephan steamrolled into her life and brought her home to live with him. She had no idea what to expect—what life with her new Master would hold. That first month with Stephan was, in some ways, more confusing than the prior ten. As a slave, she’d known her place. With Stephan everything was new and different. He’d given her freedom and so much more.
Five months after Stephan rescued her, Brianna once again finds her life flipped upside down.
In this fourth, and final, installment of Finding Anna, Brianna must unearth strength she never knew she possessed. Stephan can no longer protect her from the outside world. She must learn to trust herself, embrace who she is, and discover who she wants to be. Only by facing her demons can Brianna find true happiness and peace.

About the Author

Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.
At the age of thirty, all that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.
Seven years later, Sherri is the author of seven full-length novels and one short story. Writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create.

#Review: Hell Without You by @Ranae_Rose 4 STARS (@PoetLove726)

Hell Without YouHell Without You by Ranae Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What if we could fix one bad mistake we made when we were too young to know any better? Would you be too afraid to take a leap of faith and try? Or would you dive in head first? HELL WITHOUT YOU shows that sometimes, even when years have passed, feelings are still alive just buried deep.

Clementine has returned home after seven years away at college and graduate school. Nostalgia has her driving past places she has tried to forget but can’t seem to let go of, including her grandmother’s house. She knows someone new owns her grandmother’s house but hopes they won’t mind if she just takes a walk around. As she’s about to get into her car and leave, a truck pulls in and blocks her way. Out steps the last person she expected to see, Donovan, her ex-boyfriend. He reveals that he owns the house. She manages to escape, but rain and flash flooding land her right in a ditch. Donovan knew the weather was awful and left shortly thereafter to make sure she reached her destination safely. When he finds her walking down the road, he convinces her to come stay with him, insisting she can’t reach her destination due to the flooding.

From there starts the memories of the past and finding out what they both missed in each other’s lives. Slowly they open up and Donovan discovers why she ran away without a word and why he was never able to reach her. He owns a shop in town as well as her grandmother’s old house. Will they be able to overcome what life tosses at them? They’ve already learned they can’t live without each other.

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see characters face real situations and not circumstances that just seem too good to be true. HELL WITHOUT YOU reminds you that there are many young men in our society that enlist young and come home with problems due to being sent off to war. While HELL WITHOUT YOU only briefly touched on the subject, I feel Ranae Rose did a good job of incorporating it into the story. I wanted a little bit more in the way of details and there were a few places where the timeline jumped that seemed kind of random. Otherwise it was a great read.
