The Devil's Pawn by Elizabeth Finn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I could tell within 5 minutes of starting THE DEVIL'S PAWN that I wouldn't be getting very much work done until I'd read every last page. Elizabeth Finn wastes no time grabbing the reader's attention as the story begins with Ashton standing naked before the men who manage the escort business she's interviewing with as they heatedly discuss her body and her sexual inexperience as if she's not even there.
Forced to pay off her deceased father's $5 Million debt to the mob, Ashton has no choice but to earn as much money as possible as quickly as possible if she hopes to stay alive. After 5 years of living in dirty hotels or on the streets and getting beaten when she can't earn enough to satisfy her father's creditors, she knows that while this job may not seem ideal to most, it's her best option by a landslide.
Her new manager, dark and brooding Derek Pennington, seems much less enthusiastic about her prospects since her virgin status is not exactly the norm in this line of work and he will have to teach her quite a bit to get her ready to be an escort.
While Derek seems determined to keep all the escorts he manages at arms' length, Ashton's differences seem to anger him in ways she can't comprehend. Despite his hard exterior, she finds herself unable to avoid her attraction to him, especially during their sexual tutelage. The requirement that he teach her the ropes means they have to be close physically whether Derek likes it or not, but it doesn't mean he has to ignore the other escorts and when he does, Ashton realizes he might not be as disgusted by her as she once believed. Thus begins a romance that is filled with angst, secrets, and passion.
Within only a few chapters, the reader is completely absorbed into the story and the characters. Ashton and Derek are well-fleshed out with a lot of depth and I could identify completely with each of their emotions. The sex scenes are smoking hot and amazingly written – I was swept away with their romance and the inevitable despair that the
end of Ashton's training is bound to bring.
Elizabeth Finn also did a great job with the minor roles. Liz (as head escort) and Frederick (as another floor's escort manager) are sweet and endearing while Mr. Grayson is every bit the creepy, disgusting escort owner. They too are easy to imagine and visualize as you're caught up in Ashton's journey.
My only point of contention was in the created world itself; I had a hard time understanding how an escort company in modern day New York City with advertised sex for sale didn't seem to have any concerns with authorities shutting them down or discovering them. Mr. Grayson didn't seem to have any concern traipsing his escorts to the gynecologist and the tailor who seemed perfectly aware of what the escorts did for a living. I would have perhaps liked some mention of how there was either a loophole in the law or they were somehow keeping the sex for sale aspect of the business from the police. I also thought Ashton saying she didn't want Derek to find out her secret when it seemed pretty open and shut from the get-go was a little strange. I kept expecting there to be an extra reveal since she seemed so secretive. This was just an observation though and in no way took away from the incredible world that Elizabeth Finn created.
I loved and rooted for Ashton and Derek and their ill-fated romance! I thought the concept itself was genius – a completely different story from any I've read recently and such a perfect balance of male dominance and emotional sensitivity.
If you are in the mood for a steamy and completely believable romance with lots of angst and obstacles – look no further than THE DEVIL'S PAWN – you won't be disappointed!

Review: Gossamer
Gossamer by Renita Pizzitola
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
GOSSAMER delivers the perfect combination of romance and paranormal to a fantastic new series about the Fae. Renita Pizzitola accomplishes what few authors can in the first of a paranormal series: she creates a new world for the reader without the reader ever feeling like they're getting an encyclopedia description of the new mythical world.
Part of what made this book so great was the way the story begins as a normal young adult romance with Kyla seeing Grant for the first time – their connection is immediate, physical, and rocks Kyla's world. The reader is able to get swept up in Kyla and Grant's undeniable attraction for each other before delving into the paranormal aspects of the story. As far as Kyla knows, she is just the average human teenager, but from the moment she meets Grant, things start to happen that open her eyes to what sets her apart.
Kyla soon discovers that not only is she half faery, she's also in grave danger and must travel to the faery realm if she wants to find safety. Grant has been sent to help her, but he has secrets of his own that complicate their blooming romance.
The author seamlessly creates a beautiful, three-dimensional faery world and characters in both realms that are lovable and charming. The reader is torn right alongside Kylie as she fights to make decisions that will drastically alter the direction of her life. I'm excited to see how the Gossamer series continues and what will happen not only with Kyla, but a lot of the minor characters that stole a place in my heart as well!
I would definitely recommend GOSSAMER to anyone looking for a brand new young adult paranormal series to get wrapped up in!

Review: Awful Good Girl
Awful Good Girl by Vristen Pierce
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Imagine Cinderella as a stripper and you'll get the gist of AWFUL GOOD GIRL. A quick and light read, this story is the fairytale Disney never would have gotten away with.
Elijah, a smoking hot attorney, walks into a hole-in-the-wall strip club that he'd ordinarily never be caught dead in. He sees a gorgeous redhead from across the room and suddenly finds himself willing to do whatever it takes to get some alone time with her. Lily, meek librarian by day and daring stripper by night, finds herself unable to resist Elijah's advances.
Can opposites attract and will the two be able to move past how they met to find love?
The shortness of the story gave a lot of latitude to a storyline that if full length might have been too unrealistic to be appetizing. AWFUL GOOD GIRL is so short and fast-paced the reader can sit back and enjoy the ride and not mind being taken into an alternate universe where attorneys and librarian strippers find happily ever after. I for one love a good fairytale and found this a perfectly enjoyable novella.

Review: One Two Three, Shatter
One Two Three, Shatter by Joey James Hook
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
ONE TWO THREE, SHATTER is a dark and poignant tale of an abused boy's life through adulthood. It's angsty, thought-provoking and gut-wrenching.
Kaleb Xander's life has been no fairy tale. Abandoned by his mother at the age of 4, he is left to endure the sadistic torture his father and older brother enjoy doling out. His life of pain includes severe beatings with belts, whips and chains, as well as sexual abuse (that is mostly fade to black) and mental abuse. Kaleb's life story is not for the faint of heart, but as a reader, the journey through darkness is definitely worth the discomfort experienced and certainly makes you appreciate living a life free of such extreme suffering.
As a victim of abuse, the lingering effects of a stolen childhood and loss of innocence constantly plagues Kaleb's adult life. Each loving relationship he is involved in is overshadowed with self-doubt – in fear of hurting and being hurt by the ones who are supposed to love him. In his battle to understand what love is, he successfully alienates himself from each lover he encounters, unable to comprehend what positive attributes he could possibly bring to the relationship. As an escape, he succumbs to darkness with a string of destructive behaviors, perhaps the most debilitating of all - his heroin addiction. As a reader, his pattern of self-destruction was, at times, difficult to read but certainly necessary to the story and rewarding in the end.
ONE TWO THREE, SHATTER is a dark, but wonderfully emotional story of perseverance. If you can push through the inhumane scenes in the first few chapters, then this is an awesome book, especially if you are looking for a great read outside the realm of fairy tale romance novels.

What a great story! I LOVED the characters...even the ones I hated :-) I enjoyed THE CRUSH so much that I was hoping C.A.Williams would leave a few loose ends so she could continue the story! I am really feeling that Collins needs her own book *HINT* *HINT*.
I will definitely be reading more by C.A.Williams!

Review: Black Dorn
Black Dorn by Daryl Devore
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
BLACK DORN was not really what I expected, but I DID enjoy reading it! I think the cover image was mentally misleading to me because it is so similar to the cover of Kitty Thomas' book, [b:Tender Mercies|11258571|Tender Mercies |Kitty Thomas|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1304269427s/11258571.jpg|16185300]...
In this fictitious kingdom of Black Dorn, wives are for bearing children and Dunes and Dunas are for fucking. As Dune Branwyn is introduced to the strange ways of the land, she begins to enjoy the pleasures and punishments inflicted on her body.
The story unfolds at a rapid fire pace, leaving me wanting to know more. I was slightly confused by ending, as it is not at all what I expected, but I was pleased nonetheless. If light bondage and domination is your thing, then you should check out this book!

Review: Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever
Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever by L.V. Lewis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Oh the irony!
Typically, I would never pick up a parody, so, I am not quite sure why I picked this one up, but I sure am glad I did! Besides the title that is a little cringe worthy, the rhetoric throughout the books had me enthralled – yes, enthralled. I was a little apprehensive about even laughing at some of the off-color comments – glancing around to make sure it was ok to laugh and it was, so I did. After all, it IS a parody, it’s supposed to be funny, right? Funny it was! It was surprisingly sexy too.
FIFTY SHADES OF JUNGLE FEVER was a riot! Between Keisha’s “ghetto” take on the BDSM world and being controlled by a “white man” and the battle between her inner voices, made up of her “Fairy Hoochie Mama” and her “Triple-G,” well, let’s just say it was an entertaining ride to say the least. I rarely pull quotes from books, but I can’t resist, I have to share a few of my favorite quotes…just to give you a little taste of what you are in for.
Keisha on the age-old questions: Spit? or Swallow?
“Boy, that shit don’t taste as good as those fucking porn stars pretend. Jizz is nasty!”
Keisha on hard limits:
“I’m not agreeing to let him piss all over me like R. Kelly did to that young girl—allegedly.”
Tristan on bumping uglies:
“Keisha, Fifty Cent and I agree on one thing, only: I’m into having sex, not making love. ”
FIFTY SHADES OF JUNGLE FEVER is a must read if you are in for a whole lot of funny and sexy rolled into one. No matter if you loved FSOG or hated it, you are bound to enjoy this one! I can't wait to read book 2!

Review: Love by Number
Love by Number by Kara Leigh Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Oh the misery a broken heart can bring…until you find another someone who makes it worth your while to take a chance on loving again.
Ashleigh Malone has sadly been reduced to a boring workaholic with little to no fun in her personal life, all because of a piece of shit who calls himself a man. Too scared to love again, she drowns herself in her work as the manager of an island resort – this is genius really if you think about it…managing a resort that is secluded from the rest of the world isn’t conducive to having much of a personal life.
Ashleigh successfully built an ironclad fortress around her heart and this worked out perfectly for her until sex-on-a-stick Ryan Blake enters the picture. She knows instantly that this man has the power to tear down that wall with one finger. What on earth does he do with that one finger? Some REALLY, REALLY hot stuff!
LOVE BY NUMBER made me want to grab a towel and a cold beverage and maybe get naked with a hot man…errr…my husband ;-). This was a fun and sexy read – definitely one you will want to grab! Looking forward to the next book in the series, can’t wait to see who’s gonna get stung by the love bug next!

Review: Just Ask
Just Ask by Mia Downing
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
JUST ASK… Is getting what you want really that easy?
Jordan Hill is a workaholic by anyone’s standards. When he inherits the keys to the kingdom of Bendura Island Resort, the golden ticket to the life of luxury and relaxation in the picturesque Fiji Islands, he scoffs at the notion and quickly begins to mentally disassemble the resort, tossing the idea of owning the island long-term.
Upon arrival relaxation is the last thing on Jordan’s mind, but fulfilling his uncle’s death-bed request is at the top of his list. In addition to scattering his ashes, Jordan’s uncle as requested, in nicer terms that he get a life and enjoy the accomplishments and possessions he has worked so hard to achieve.
Enter cowboy and co-owner of the island resort, Ryan McCale. This sexy former attorney turned beach bum is determined to show Jordan the way of the island life and the power of politely asking for what you really want.
It is obvious from the powerful imagery in JUST ASK that Mia Downing is very familiar with life filled with horses – I felt like I was riding along with them ☺ JUST ASK is, in my opinion, the best book written by Mia Downing to date. If you love a sweet, gay-for-you story that is heavy on plot and light on kink (by her own description), then this is definitely a romance you will want to read.

Liaison by Natasha Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
LIAISON (now titled TAUGHT TO KNEEL) hits all the right buttons in this sexy quickie, a story of moving on and finding peace and satisfaction.
Gabrielle has been carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders after losing the love of her life. She knows that absolving herself from the heavy guilt she has felt since the death of her husband can only be achieved where her life with her husband began. Upon arrival to the Tuscan countryside, sadness weighs heavy on her heart, but when the beautiful stranger Julian enters the picture; her life and desires change in a flash.
At 33 pages, LIAISON (TAUGHT TO KNEEL) has a surprisingly well-developed story line and characters. I am really hoping to learn more about Gabrielle’s journey into the unknown world of pain and pleasure as well as the healing powers this lifestyle serves for her in the future.

Review: Power of the Moon
Power of the Moon by Tina Carreiro
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Entertaining and exciting, POWER OF THE MOON is the best paranormal panty ripper I have read in a very long time!
It is no secret that the moon holds special powers and influences in many aspects of our daily life. Miakoda Starr is different from all the others and has come to accept that she cannot escape the power she possesses. Instead of embracing her gifts, she secludes herself from others to avoid the ridicule that is sure to accompany their attentions. Mia is not exactly sure what she is, but she knows it is not normal to have the ability to tell when death is coming for someone and she knows it is not normal to be able to read a person's aura like the average person reads a street sign.
In an attempt to save a homeless man from certain death, Mia finds herself in the middle of a paranormal standoff that has been brewing for more than a century and she has to learn how to embrace the power of the moon in order to battle the evil that lurks in the darkness.
Imagine a life where you hold the power of the moon within you – you can control things on Earth much like the moon does. Detective Cole Barnett is controlled masculinity personified. From the first moment he meets Mia, he feels the gravitational pull and knows she is meant for him, but Mia has been alone for way too long to succumb to his charm and good looks without a fight – she refuses to believe in love at first sight. Cole is virtually invincible when it comes to everything except for Mia. He has a body of steel and the patience of a saint, but she tests his self-control every second they are together. Mia holds the power and she really makes him work for it!
POWER OF THE MOON is a full-length novel with a unique plot and well-developed characters. Unlike so many of the paranormal reads of today, POWER OF THE MOON forces readers to beg for a little nookie and I love that! Tina Carreiro does a magnificent job drawing out the sexual tension, really giving the reader something to look forward to as opposed to jumping straight into the sack. If you are craving a great paranormal read, then you should definitely check out POWER OF THE MOON—you are sure to be sucked in from the very beginning!

Review: Schooled
Schooled by Deena Bright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
After discovering that her husband is a dirty, rotten, cheating scoundrel...times a thousand, high-school teacher, Janelle Garrity-Flowers decides to get a life and finds herself in the middle of not one, but two smokin' hot former students.
Teaching has never been so sexy! Former star athlete, Briggs, is a chocolate-skinned, blue eyed beauty who has had the hots for Miss Garrity since he was in her class in high school and now that he sees that he actually has a shot, there is no turning back. Then there is Leo, the high school geek turned sexy-hot man, God of the bedroom and he also has his sights on the goods that were so off limits during his teenaged years. Janelle teaches a lot, but learns so much more than she ever bargained for as she opens her heart and her bedroom door to both adoring fans.
You know there is some drama...God forbid a teacher actually have a juicy sex life! The book left in a teensy-weensy cliffhanger of sorts, so, I am eager to get on to the next book to see how the story plays out. Great book, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

Review: Fade Into You
Fade Into You by Kate Dawes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What a fantastic little gem of a read! FADE INTO YOU is romantic and sexy and I just love the characters. Olivia is a strong and independent female lead and Max is a dominant and commanding hero, but not in an obnoxious way - I love them both and I am starting book 2 immediately because I can't wait to see what's going to happen next!

Review: Disappeared
Disappeared by S.J. Lewis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Having read several of S.J. Lewis' books, I was expecting something darker. This was a totally unexpected, almost sweet story.
Sarah is a spoiled brat who has found herself in a precarious situation - once living the dream as a wealthy woman with a successful husband is now running for her life from drug dealers and a husband who led her to the bottom of the barrel so to speak. Asking for help from a man she once ditched for the aforementioned "good life" is the last thing she ever thought she would have to do. After initially turning her away, his conscience will not let him leave her in the dangerous situation she has described to him.
Mack, the kind ex-boyfriend has Sarah transported to a cabin in the woods to live with a dominant female named Belinda. Belinda quickly lets Sarah know that life with her will not be a sedentary one - forcing the once lazy and overweight Sarah to exercise, eat right and work...literally her ass off, in turn molding her into a new person thus changing her life.
DISAPPEARED was surprisingly short on the detailed sex scenes I have come to enjoy from Lewis, instead opting for leaving most of it to the imagination. If you enjoy a tale of perseverance, m/f and f/f sex with a happy for now ending, then DISAPPEARED would be a great book for you to check out!

Review: Release Me: A Novel
Release Me: A Novel by J. Kenner
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Zzzzzzzzz…. Zzzzzzzzz…. Snooze alert!
I’m sorry; I just could not get into this book. At about 50% in, I was still waiting for something exciting to happen and had to force myself to hurry up and finish it. I thought it was lacking in emotional depth, resulting in a failure to really connect as a reader with the characters. Everything seemed so superficial and contrived to me – I didn’t feel as if they were actually communicating AT ALL and that was one of the main reasons the story just didn’t work for me.
RELEASE ME definitely had potential, but ultimately failed to deliver the goods in the end.
