My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The BREAKING FREE series is a hit with me! BREAKING SHAUN can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely suggest reading FREEING ASIA first! Besides the fact that it was a solid 5 star read for me, you will get a better sense of the characters and there are some lingering story lines that you’ll want to know the background on to fully enjoy them!
❝Wow. I’ve never come that much before,” she admitted breathlessly before she giggled. “You got kinda rough there at the end. I liked it.”
I smirked as I bent down to grab my boxers off of her floor. A lot of women do. I made sure to keep that thought to myself. I knew the last thing a woman wanted to hear after having sex with a man was a comparison of her to all the other women he’d been with. It was true though. Most of the women I’d been with liked to be told what to do in bed even if they didn’t want to be bossed around anywhere else. That was fine with me. I enjoyed being dominant.❞Yep, that’s classic Shaun! He’s pretty much a man-whore, but one you just can’t help but love. He’s got issues, but who doesn’t? His ideal woman would be happy with a hot and steamy night of passion on occasion – one who doesn’t want a relationship; he doesn’t want the drama that comes with that.
Natalie. Well, she’s quite the pretty little package and instantly has Shaun all tied up in knots – he’s totally jonesing for what she has to offer. She’s pretty much perfect because she’s all about the “no strings attached” romance he is offering, but not with him. The problem is, they run in a tight circle. If past experience is any indicator of the future, there’s no such thing as “no strings attached” when you share all the same friends – that’s a recipe for disaster!
❝How about being friends?” Natalie asked, bringing me back from my thoughts.
“Friends?” I said it like I’d never heard the word before.
I didn’t have any female friends besides Asia and Hailey, and even calling them friends was kind of a stretch. I fucked women. I didn’t hang out with them.
She giggled, and it was the best sound I thought I’d ever heard.
“What’s wrong? You don’t like that word?” she teased, giving me a mischievous grin.
I chuckled and shook my head. “Can’t say I have a lot of female friends.”
“Well, I’ll be your first then.” She took her feet out of the water and stood next to me.
I let my eyes roam up her legs and the rest of her body before I met her gaze.
“So?” She extended her hand out to me like she wanted to shake on it.
I honestly didn’t know if I wanted to accept or not. I knew what being friends meant. It meant no kissing and definitely no fucking. I wasn’t down with that, but I figured it was the best I was going to get at this point, and perhaps being her friend would be my way in.❞
That’s his plan and while not incredibly innovative; it’s a good start! Taking the “just friends” approach serves Shaun well – for the first time in well… maybe... EVER, having a girl he is interested in, as a friend FIRST catapults their flirtations and lusty desires into unchartered territories – building a firm foundation for a promising relationship – it just takes them a bit to realize what is happening.
❝I was an addict, and her body was quickly becoming my drug of choice.❞That’s what happens, little grasshopper, when one is bitten by the love bug!
BREAKING SHAUN is an exciting contemporary romance that is sure to please if you are one who loves bad boys, bad girls – both who are insistent on fighting fate in the love department. I love the sexual tension in this series – author E.M. Abel really makes you work for that fairy tale ending! Get it, it’s good!
