Review: Convicted

Convicted by Aleatha Romig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Writing a review for CONVICTED is probably one of the most nonsensical things I can imagine. I can’t really tell someone who hasn’t read it ANYTHING, and what I really want to do is join a group of people who have read it so I can talk A LOT. I seriously think I might need some group therapy after reading this—and if I need it just from reading Claire’s journey—I can only imagine how Aleatha must feel after WRITING it.

What I can say is that Aleatha Romig did NOT disappoint. I needed a lot from CONVICTED. I mean, Consequences and Truth set the bar extremely high and with all the loose ends, CONVICTED really only had one option. If it didn’t blow the story out of the park, it’d be a total failure. And boy, did it blow the story out of the park.

From the get-go, the story took turns from a point of time a few years in the future (2016) and current time (2013). So the reader not only got a taste of real time, but also had the insanely agonizing perspective of a future that is absolute madness and had to wonder what on earth could have happened in current time for such a future to exist?!?! I was in turmoil—but apparently, the sick, depraved kind where I’m actually taking it and asking for more!

I still stand by my “conviction” that I’ll never be Team Tony. What I can say is that I knew going in that nothing I expected would be what it was, and that this series was at every step an amazing, incredible, mind-bending journey that is pure talent and genius to create and equal parts pleasure and agony to read. I am grateful that Ms. Romig shared her absolutely insane story with us and didn’t waste a second writing anything but her honest truth to the characters and their story. I can honestly say that I can’t imagine another outcome that would have rang truer to the story and I loved it (even when I was pulling my hair out reading it).
