Description:
The Devil's Dust MC has a list of new threats to the club's lifestyle. Dani, to prove her loyalty, is trying to embrace a part of herself that she never knew existed until now. A sinful beast lurking beneath her surface has been awakened and is ready to eliminate anyone that stands in its way. Looking at her stained hands, she rinses the blood from them. She resigns herself to innocence lost and welcomes her thirst for more blood.
After a breathtaking turn of events, Shadow is looking at life in a different perspective. Not knowing who he can trust or who he can forgive has left him feeling desolate and alone. As Shadow is laying behind his rifle, he wonders if he can pull the trigger to eliminate the threat. He takes a deep breath and squeezes the trigger, the rifle recoil ignites the fuel that drives him.
Retaliations will be required.
Boundaries will be shattered.
Redemption will be lost.
Betrayal so deep, yet they still yearn for one another. Can Shadow overlook Dani’s transgressions? Can Dani overlook the mistrust that Shadow has placed upon her?

Romantic alpha-male reveals his true dark side with the second book in THE DEVIL’S DUST series.
When Dani’s mother set her up as a rat in WHAT DOESN’T DESTROY US, she shatters all the trust between Shadow and Dani. After Shadow’s rocky childhood, it’s hard for him to let Dani back in even after her dad decides the MC can trust her. While Shadow tries to work out his emotions, his best friend Bobby takes Dani in and helps her get back on her feet.
Before long Dani has a job, dating prospects, and the trust of the Devil’s Dust women, but what she really wants is to be back in Shadow’s arms. Unfortunately, Dani and Shadow’s troubled pasts bring a plethora of enemies just waiting to take them down. They may not be able to be together even if they are finally willing to let down their walls once and for all.
In WHAT DOESN’T DESTROY US, I complained that Shadow was overly sentimental when it came to Dani and I wanted to see a little more edge. I also said that some of the sex scenes were a bit flowery in their descriptions. I can honestly say there wasn’t even a hint of either of those issues in THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US. If anything, Shadow went a little far in the opposite direction. I wanted him to be the bad boy he was supposed to be, but I don’t think I was ready for just how easily he would take to killing when he thought the need was there. Dani doesn’t wear her patch anymore since she and Shadow aren’t together, but that doesn’t stop Shadow from killing anyone who tries to date her. Same with when Dani says if given the opportunity, she would have killed someone. Shadow takes her at her word when she most likely is just speaking out of anger. Yet when Dani realizes that Shadow must have gotten involved, she doesn’t even bat an eye.
Also, Shadow never seems to worry about normal concerns like gunshot residue or being at the scene of the crime. He will follow a body right into the hospital after being seen at the scene of the crime and never even mention the possibility of the police. It seemed unrealistic, even in the big bad world of motorcycle clubs (but maybe that’s just because I’m not an expert on MCs). The sex scenes were much more to my liking in THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US, though I thought they got a little excessive near the middle and end when what I really wanted was to get on with the story. Similar to the first, I just felt like parts of the book dragged, which is ironic considering how action-packed it was.
Once again, M.N. Forgy killed it with her teaser of the third book in the series and I went from counting my complaints to bouncing in my seat for Bobby and Doc’s story. I don’t know how she manages to weave the perfect amount of suspense and intrigue into her endings but she definitely knows how to hook a reader.
If you like motorcycle clubs and seriously dark alpha-males, THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US may be just what the doctor ordered. I gave THE SCARS THAT DEFINE US 3.5 stars. Just be sure to read the series in order as they are not stand-alone and you’ll want the background of how Dani and Shadow fell in love.

About the Author:
M.N. Forgy was raised in Missouri where she still lives with her family. She's a soccer mom by day and a saucy writer by night. M.N. Forgy started writing at a young age but never took it seriously until years later, as a stay-at-home mom, she opened her laptop and started writing again. As a role model for her children, she felt she couldn't live with the "what if" anymore and finally took a chance on her character's story. So, with her glass of wine in hand and a stray Barbie sharing her seat, she continues to create and please her fans.
