#Review: Boy Next Door

Boy Next DoorBoy Next Door by Emma Clark
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am so torn and confused about my feelings for this book. I honestly do not know how I really feel about it and that may because it totally mind fucked me!!

When Brandon Levine walks into the coffee shop while Mia’s working, she can’t stop staring at this insanely hot guy with the amazing green eyes and sexy smile. Looks can be deceiving and Mia should have known better than to accept a ride from a stranger, no matter how hot he is. The boy next door is insane and his brother may be worse.

This story is downright scary as shit! I couldn’t believe I was reading it and at the same time I couldn’t put it down. Brandon holds Mia captive while brutally raping her and that is not even remotely the worst thing that she experiences. Emma Clark explains that she has researched the psychological problems afflicting the characters and that these symptoms are very real. Because Brandon and even Mia have real mental issues, I had conflicting feelings about the events taking place and I’m not sure what that says about me. I do know that I should have never have read this book while my husband was out of town. Here’s me trying to go to bed that night:

description

There are very disturbing elements to this story and I felt like I seeing a train wreck, couldn’t pass without looking. My problems with BOY NEXT DOOR started with Mia showing symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome only six days after her capture. Fight back, girl!! I had a hard time connecting with the characters due to similar responses and ultimately, this is what drove my 3 star rating. Describing this as a “dark” story isn’t even close to a good description, but if you tend to think “the darker, the better,” then you should give this one a chance.
