Review: Plausibility

PlausibilityPlausibility by Jettie Woodruff
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ok, so now I am kind of depressed because I want to read another Jettie Woodruff book, but I think these are the only two "darkish" books she has written. (Now that I have written the review, I have read yet another wonderful book by Jettie that skirts the edges of the dark side titled, ALL FOR MADDIE, so that makes a trifecta of 5 star reviews from me :-) 3 out of 3 ain't bad!)

Jettie Woodruff writes a really great story and I do mean really great! Although the story is labeled as dark on some shelves, it's not really dark in my sense of the word, it's mostly emotionally dark.

PLAUSIBILITY is a complex story with adult themes.

Quill, a young adult for most of the story, was kidnapped at a very early age. She grew up in a very sheltered environment with two men she presumed were her father and brother. Although she is protected from it, her "family" is firmly planted in a world of decadence and crime. As I learned more about Quill, I came to view her as the "Princess in the Ivory Tower" - she lives in visual perfection, but she longs to be out in the world experiencing life like other girls her age. In the world in which they live, that kind of freedom is ludicrous to even consider - she is sheltered from the evils of the world, but only if she remains inside the "'tower" walls. When her walls of safety crumble, Quill's perfect life is snatched from her in the blink of an eye and life as she once knew it is gone in a flash.

Watching her acclimate to her "new life" was emotionally wrecking and exhausting, but well worth the journey.

PLAUSIBILITY contains a pseudo-incestuous theme. Julius and Quill were raised as siblings and ultimately end up having a relationship, but it's also important to know that they are not blood relatives. I like to bring up potential aspects of the story that may be a hard limit for some readers - if that kind of thing icks you out, then steer clear, but don't cheat yourself! The story is written so that it doesn't seem icky at all.

Ultimately, all you need to know here is that PLAUSIBILITY is a wonderful story. If you like to read romance novels that stray from the traditional sense of the word, then you are going to love author Jettie Woodruff's style - she is truly a fantastic story teller!
