Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: The Truth About Us by T.J. Hannah

The Truth About Us by T.J. Hannah

Description:

Twenty-one-year-old Sophia Ross has lived under the pressure of her parents expectations since the tragic accident that shattered their once perfect family. Determined to start over where no one knows her, she answers a housing ad on Craigslist and takes a job at a little bar in a town she has never heard of. All Sophia's looking for is a place to escape, somewhere she can hide behind her lies and keep herself distracted.

She just didn’t expect to be distracted by Corbin Kasey.

Twenty-five-year-old Corbin Kasey is stuck in his hometown, his job, and his life, spending more time covering for his Dad’s problems than trying to fix his own. To take his mind off everything he has the wild Kayla, his stable roommates, and the calmness of swimming in Mills Lake. He always thought it was enough to keep him from drowning in himself, until he meets Sophia.

Neither of them are prepared for their lies to be stripped away by a single kiss. But for Corbin and Sophia, the truth has consequences.

Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Add one broken girl plus one guy with a hero complex and you either get one perfect couple or a recipe for disaster.

Sophia runs from her overbearing family after a terrible accident leaves her family pushing all their hopes and dreams onto her. Rejecting her parents’ overbearing aspirations for her future, she finds a small town where she can work as a bartender and try to figure out who the post-accident Sophia is.

Corbin has spent the last 6 years watching after his alcoholic father and hiding his mother’s lies from a sister he’s determined to protect. Working a full-time job at a machine shop, he also manages his dad’s bar since his dad doesn’t spend enough time being sober to take care of it himself. Corbin works to stay occupied and emotion-free with a no-strings-attached relationship with one of the bartenders at his dad’s bar, Kayla. That is, until he meets the anxiety-pill-popping Sophia who storms into his town a broken, tragic mess and suddenly he can’t get his mind off of her.

Sophia is instantly drawn to rugged Corbin but she’s determined to keep her new life drama-free and with a jealous Kayla watching their every move, Corbin is the opposite of drama-free. Corbin makes her feel when she’s trying to become numb, but she just can’t resist him. Can they heal each other or do two tragic people make an even bigger tragedy when they unite?

The chemistry between Sophia and Corbin was believable and instantaneous. I believed it, felt it, and rooted for them even when I thought they had no chance at being together. Sophia has so many lies and Corbin has so many secrets but together they just seemed so right. I wanted a happily ever after for them both and enjoyed the journey along the way.

This book does not appear to be part of a series although I could definitely see a possible book in the future for Corbin’s sister, Gaby and Corbin’s friend, Riley. This was a great first novel for author T.J. Hannah and I see a promising future ahead of her.
