Review: Mercy

MercyMercy by Annabel Joseph

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

MERCY is one of those fantastic, but slightly twisted reads that leaves you feeling excited and a little confused about why you enjoyed it so much.

Millionaire Matthew and dancer Lucy begin their relationship as master and slave in a very business like fashion. Matthew explains what her role as his submissive would be like with such clinical detachment that it truly boggled my mind and it was obviously just as confusing to Lucy...but it was also very exciting. Watching their relationship grow was an interesting and erotic journey, but also disturbing at times. I found myself struggling with Matthew's actions and questioning his ability to make rational decisions about all matters relating to Lucy. I had to constantly remind myself that their behavior was just part of and specific to their D/s relationship.

In order to preserve the surprise ending, I won't address specifics, but the path Matthew eventually chose to take their relationship was quite shocking to me and really crossed a line - violating Lucy's trust and rights as a human being. I was disgusted with his choices. Then I had to remind myself that he was like this from the beginning....teetering on the narrow ledge between the obsessive / stalkerish tendencies that he so commonly displayed and the admiration and love he obviously felt for Lucy. As much as Lucy and Matthew's behavior disturbed me, it kind of excited me too and I was ultimately pleased with the story.

If you want an erotically dark read that is sure to leave you struggling with your emotions long after you have finished, then look no further than MERCY.

The King's Pleasure by Kitty Thomas

The King's PleasureThe King's Pleasure by Kitty Thomas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! Another spectacular showing from Kitty Thomas - she truly is a master at weaving a wicked story that leaves you pondering the lives of her characters long after you have read the final page.

THE KINGS PLEASURE is a fantastically sexy and erotic tale of a young and beautiful gypsy thief named Abigail who is caught stealing and as punishment, is forced to serve her time as the new King's slave. The young king is determined to rule his kingdom differently than the previous king, his father, in what could possibly be likened to a reign of terror.

King Niall hatches a plan that is sure to change the future of his country while making an example of the beautiful young thief. As the story is told, her position as the King's slave doesn't appear to be much of a hardship - in fact, as his first chosen slave, her position is a very prestigious position for any woman to be in, much less a poor gypsy girl. The first chosen slave is much like the position of Queens in other countries - making her the envy of all the formally trained women who have been groomed to satisfy the king in all his desires. As the first chosen, Abigail has a number of obstacles to face, but to compound matters even more, she is despised because of her gypsy heritage - then, throw in the fact that she must be schooled by the King in the ways of the flesh and her role as a slave and you have a delicious recipe for a racy read.

If you are a fan of Kitty Thomas, you will not be disappointed with this story. Leave it to Ms. Thomas to blur the lines of fantasy and reality in a sensational combination of BDSM elements and a solid story resulting in a great read!

Review: Party Games

rating:   ★★★★☆
recommended for the lovers of the taboo!

My Review:

This was one of those unexpected finds...one that sounds good, but has no GR ratings and you are not exactly sure what it is about AND have never heard of the author! That about sums it up and I really enjoyed this one. It was hot and mysterious and if I am being honest, it freaked me out a little.

Basically, Stephanie goes to a "game" party with a guy she considers her boyfriend, but she has really only known him for 3 weeks...there was just a lot she didn't know from the beginning. I was definitely on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen next. There was a ton of debauchery and trickery going on and lots and lots of "games" with different people.

You really must read this if you are looking for a steamy quickie--this should do the trick! I do have to warn you that there is a variety of topics some may take issue with. If you have an aversion to any of the following, then steer clear of this one: non-con, forced seduction, non-con fantasy, kidnap...to name a few.

Learning to Drown by Sommer Marsden

rating ★★★★☆

status Read from July 26 to 28, 2011
format ebook
recommended for Lovers of D/s & kidnap fantasy books
review "It had been amazing. Such a good surrender. Almost what I wanted. Almost. But then...it had waned. Every time after, the whole scenario was a little less. Not quite as bright or magical or surreal as that first time. I didn't come as hard. My heart didn't beat as fast. My surrender was less crisp and a little petulant."

What happens when your fantasy is your reality and your reality is your fantasy? Hmmm...that got you thinking didn't it?

Ember is an addict of sorts. Like all addicts, she is constantly chasing that blissful euphoric state that she only achieves through kidnap and non-consensual fantasies. She needs constant titration or in this case, escalation in order to achieve the same high. Along her journey, she uncovers a lot about herself and what she needs. She discovers that she has been going about things all wrong. In hindsight, of-course, it is glaringly obvious what she needs--it just takes a stranger to show her.

I really enjoyed this book. The insight gained by allowing the reader into the mind of both the hero and heroine was crucial especially for those of us who have no first hand knowledge of the lifestyle. Learning To Drown is a little dark, okay, maybe more than a little dark. It contains elements of the BDSM culture like bondage, domination and submission to name a few, but nothing too extreme. It's also important to note that the main theme to this book is kidnap fantasy and non-con fantasy, so if that is a topic that bothers you , then you should steer clear. If you have no aversion to that, then you should enjoy this darkly sexy and romantic book. It is sure to add some spice and excitement to an otherwise boring night!

There were a lot of great scenes with sexy lines in this book, but the following was really the epitome of domination...I must have read it a million times...

"I don't mind being the bad guy. Bad guys have bigger guns, don't they? And they cheat. So go on, Ember, suck my gun."
