Review: Tragic

Tragic by J.A. Huss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Despite what the title promises, I found TRAGIC to be oddly refreshing and completely addictive.  TRAGIC isn’t about exploring the depths of the darkness, it’s an empowering story about rising from the ashes and proving against all odds that you are a survivor.

Rook has never had anything come easy for her. She lost her mother to a crack addiction, grew up in foster homes (and not one but a shuffling series of homes) and finally, upon finding someone who promised to love and support her, actually found someone who wanted to control and abuse her. When she realized that he wouldn’t stop until he’d killed her, she got on a bus with very little money to her name and escaped to Denver. But even Denver didn’t come easy for Rook as she found herself sleeping with a knife in hand in a homeless shelter and getting fired from a housekeeping job because she was wrongly accused of stealing. At this point, things couldn’t get any worse and finally, Rook’s luck changes. She finds herself at an erotic photography studio with a test shoot appointment and gets offered the Tragic contract working with the sweetest, sexiest man alive.

The photo shoots with Ronin are oh so sexy and I love how possessive he is.

Ronin growls and it takes all my self-control not to spit out a crouton as I laugh. Oh, shit. He might start pissing on me soon.

But what I love more than anything is that Rook doesn’t just give in to the first guy willing to help her, she makes a conscious effort to stand on her own two feet. She never wants to feel powerless again and she is not willing to let anything get in the way of gaining her independence and maybe, just maybe, her dreams for the future. I also really appreciated Spencer; he seemed honest and good and loyal and I’m excited to see what he adds to the next installment in the series. And I’m not going to lie, I’m worried that Rook’s ex will see these pictures of her and come after her. Most of all, I can’t wait to see what happens with Rook and Ronin and I really hope they can find a way to get their happily ever after together!

Trust me, the pleasure was all mine! I'm a new super fan! And when Ford's book comes out, I'll be the girl in the corner drooling all over herself. It won't be pretty ;D
