About the Author:

I write erotic romance because I like to expose my characters completely – strengths, flaws and scars. My debut novella, Revving Her Up, was the first story in the Full Throttle series, which focuses on the bad boys – and girls – of stock car racing. It was a Night Owl Reviews Top Pick, and has been called "one heck of a sexy ride" (Sizzling Hot Books), and "a hell of a sexy read" (Read-Love-Blog). I am currently working on the next two stories in the series.

My newest novel, Nashville Trio, is a steamy MMF ménage novel about a country singer and the two very different men in her life. It comes out May 5, 2014.

New Adult romance is my new favorite passion. I love writing stories with angst and heart, heart-melting kisses, and happy endings. I'm currently working on two New Adults series. The first, Running Scared , is about a Boston University student and the bodyguard hired to protect her from herself. It will be out in August 2014. The second series is a trilogy (Scarred, Burned, and Marked) about three friends bound together by a terrible tragedy and the scars it left behind.

I'm originally from New York City, (and still a loyal Yankees fan!), but since moving south, I've developed passions for NASCAR and country music. Both feature in my recent stories. In addition to writing (and reading) I enjoy yoga, bellydancing, and growing veggies in the Washington, D.C. area with my scientist husband and two curious kids. I'm active in the Washington Romance Writers, and the Maryland Romance Writers, and have been a member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) since 2009.

What could possibly drive someone to have an affair? When you really sit down and think about it, you can think of many reasons and ways it could happen. If it did would you know what how you wanted to handle it? Would you end the relationship or would you stay? What about the children, the house, and anything else mutually owned? Is it really so easy to say what you would do? I think we’d all say “yes,” we’d leave, that we wouldn’t stand for our spouse having an affair. Colette Freedman makes you wonder if it really is that simple.

THE AFFIAR starts with the wife’s story and how an innocent act led to her being suspicious of an affair. After talking to friends she decides she has to find proof before she can talk to her husband about it. Kathy starts by going through his home office, his email and eventually going through his work office. Just when she thinks she’s wrong and jumping to irrational conclusions she finds the proof she’s been looking for. Kathy takes it one step further and finds a way to see it with her own eyes. We then get to see the husband’s side of the story and lastly the mistress's. At the end of THE AFFAIR we see the confrontation of wife and mistress and the way they both force the husband to sit down and talk to them so that they can decide which relationship will survive. Will he choose to stay with his wife? Will he decide his mistress is better? Will the mistress let him pick her? Does the wife even want him to stay? Can you guess what happens?

I loved how THE AFFAIR was written. At first you feel sorry for the wife, then you see the husband’s side and realize it’s not that cut and dry, but once you see the mistress’s side you are left wanting it to work out for everyone. Colette Freedman weaves a tale that forces you to see that not every story is cut and dry. Yes the husband cheated, yes the mistress knew the husband was married, but she shows that both the husband and the wife had a part in their marriage deteriorating to the point of both of them being unhappy. The only reason I couldn’t give THE AFFAIR a full 5 stars is because conversations seen from one person’s point of view are repeated, word for word, in the husband’s story or the mistress's. Not all of these conversations were short and I had trouble not skimming ahead to hear what he or she was thinking rather than rereading a conversation I’d already read once. THE AFFAIR is definitely worth reading especially if you think you KNOW what you’d do if your spouse ever cheated or even if you’re happy within your relationship.

When the queen finds out, she beheads M.H. and gets Alice to do whatever she wants, including bring her Robby’s son, Ryley. Ryley is the true heir to the throne so the Queen wants him dead.

Ryley has no idea what Alice is up to, but he knows it’s very hard for him to stop thinking about her when she shows up at school as a new student. He becomes obsessed with her even though she infuriates him. Alice’s goal is to make Ryley fall in love with her so that he’ll follow her into Wonderland of his own free will. As Ryley slowly discovers more and more about Wonderland he starts to beg Alice to take him there. Eventually she does, but things don’t exactly go as planned. Will the queen succeed in beheading Ryley or will Ryley end the queen’s reign? What will happen to Alice? Can there be a happily ever after?

THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER was an interesting spin on characters we all know and love. Alice’s heart will win you over despite the fact she continuously makes wrong decisions. Ryley is an interesting addition to the bunch and you can’t help but feel for him. The only reason I’m not in love with THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER is because the ending felt rushed. There was an incredible amount of build up over Ryley and how the queen wanted his head so it was a major disappointment to me when it wrapped up so quickly. I also wanted a little bit more of the Mad Hatter. Overall THE DEATH OF THE MAD HATTER is a great way to fall in love with the characters of Wonderland all over again.

#Review: Risk by @rhyllbiest

It’s no secret how much I love to read ménage books, so I was intrigued by the blurb for RISK to see how Rhyll Biest was going to make this arrangement work. I think RISK had potential, but my honest opinion is that it just wasn’t long enough. The other issue I had was with the single P.O.V. from Mike’s perspective. It felt like I had ADD being in his head, because he was so erratic in his thoughts. I truly feel if the story were longer and more developed, that it could definitely be a good read.

Mike is all about taking personal risks, but he has turned over a new leaf and is trying in vain to be what he defines as “normal.” He falls in love with Jane who he feels is more “innocent” in comparison to his seedy past. Mike and his fiancée Jane are an undeniably well matched couple, but she knows deep down that he is keeping something from her. Based on previous experience, his biggest fear is that if Jane knew his darkest desires, she’d leave him. He feels he is protecting her by keeping his unconventional kinky past hidden, but the Orlov’s do not want to let him go and seek him out in his new life in China. After Jane meets his friends Vlad and Lena at dinner (much to his dismay), she is determined to find out what exactly Mike is hiding. Once Jane sets her plans into motion, Mike realizes that she might not be so innocent after all…

I think that the moments between Jane and Mike are steamy hot, but when Vlad and Lena are involved it gets kind of awkward. The brash Lena is all of a sudden very timid, and the dominance games were… well they were odd to me, but to each their own in that regard. I will say that I was disappointed in the single scene with the two couples. I was just expecting more when they were all together, and I wanted more emotion to be involved with the Orlov’s and Mike. I felt like that aspect of the story was left lingering, and that Lena and Vlad deserved to have some say in the conclusion with Mike and Jane as well. Now I’m not even going to mention my issues with Jane and Vlad, because that made me shake my head a few times. Once the single scene involving both couples is over, we came to what I feel like was a lackluster conclusion. I really do love a good short story, but RISK left me feeling like it was incomplete. That being said, if Biest decided to do a follow up story with these couples, I’d definitely want to read what happens next as they explore the potential of their dynamics more.

My breath grew shallow, from arousal, from fear. Gage was good at that—eliciting strong emotions that contrasted so sharply, they knocked a person on their ass in total confusion. I shouldn’t want him. I should scream at him to get the hell out of my house and never come back. I should get a freaking restraining order.

Regan is in a brothel in Rio after being kidnapped and sold. She is being raped by dozens of men and her sanity only survives by disconnecting from her surroundings and staying in her head. Two months she waited for someone to come and its Daniel that rescues her from this fate worse than hell. She doesn’t know if she can trust him really, but he’s the only person who makes her feel safe. Daniel has spent eighteen months searching the world for his sister. He left the army and has rescued tons of girls from human trafficking, but Regan is different. She should be a shell of a broken woman, but she’s a fighter and he admires her almost as much as he’s attracted to her. He was supposed to deliver Regan to the embassy and continue on his mission, only he can’t let her go.

I am in awe of Regan. I would love to think that I would fight back that long, that hard. Regan is badass, plain and simple. Two months after being kidnapped, raped, and sold as a sex slave she’s still fighting back in the best way she can; by not giving the customers what they want. They want a blond North American girl who cries and begs for mercy and they pay extra for it, but Reagan becomes a statue with a bitchy streak.

“The man pulls out of me and drags me up by my hair, shouting at me, now. He wants my attention, and I’m not giving it to him. When he pulls me up to his face, screaming, I give him a thin, pained smile and shoot him the bird. Fuck you, I think. You’re not getting tears from me.”

Hells yeah! You go on with your badass self! Pretty sure I’d have been a blubbering mess. When Daniel finds her in the whore house to rescue her he can’t believe he still sees fight in her eyes and that is why I love Regan so much. She is the ultimate heroine. She has been through hell and keeps on fighting. Let’s not forget Daniel and Regan’s adventure through the seediest sections of Brazil. Ultimate gun-blazing action coupled with blazing hot sex. They are perfect together. My problem with LAST HIT was that I wasn’t in love with Nick, but in LAST BREATH Daniel is funny, sensitive, and sweet all rolled up into a sexy package with a delicious Texas drawl. Regan’s situation sucks, but Daisy and Nick sending Daniel is one heck of an “I’m sorry.”

LAST BREATH was a fast-paced, dirty, action novel with some seriously hot sex that would bring anyone back from the brink of trauma-induced celibacy. While I was completely entertained by LAST HIT, LAST BREATH hit the target on so many different levels. The dark, the sexy, the funny, and the action were all perfect and make this a story you won’t want to miss.

She’s a biter. That’s the warning given when I point to the blonde with the glazed green eyes in Senhor Gomes’ book of whores. He shakes his head and says that he has access to dozens of others that are better and all willing to engage in whatever perverse activity I want. He brags that there isn’t a sick sex act I can think of that Gomes can’t fulfill. I like home cooking, I tell him. A Texan in Rio sees a lot of beautiful Brazilian women, but sometimes you want a little star-spangled banner in the rotation. 

He nods as if this makes sense to him, but I think it’s the money that I’m flashing that he understands. We walk up to the second floor and down a narrow hall toward the back, a windowless part of this brick and metal building. I can’t call it a home or even a brothel. It’s a dingy place where men with deep perversions but shallow wallets can get their rocks off.

I don’t want to have sex here, I’ve explained to Gomes. I have a thing against hellholes and having sex in them. I wave around a lot of cash, and Gomes nodded and asks no more questions.

We’re a strange parade—Gomes, me, and some house mom trailing behind. He stops at the second to last door and removes a key.

I’ve seen pictures of Regan Porter before, and not in Gomes’ look book, but nothing prepares me for her full-fledged, magazine-quality beauty. She hasn’t been eating well; her delicate bones are beginning to look sharp in places—at her shoulders, ribs, and hips. But there’s no denying her breathtaking looks. Her blonde hair is damp and small strands stick to her perfect skull. Her oval face, with its pink cheekbones and lush lips and eyebrows that look like wings, stands out like a piece of fine china at a flea market. Though she’s thin, there’s a delicious curviness in the slope of her side as it dips into the waist and flares back out to form a cuppable roundness at the hip. And those endlessly long legs.

Shit. I close my eyes and swallow. No decent man would be standing here thinking about those legs wrapped around his waist. But then again, I’m not decent. I’m no longer army sniper, Special Forces Daniel Hays who may have once been lauded as a hero for killing insurgents in Afghanistan. Now I’m Daniel Hays, mercenary who kills people for money and spends all his spare time in brothels and flesh dens like this one. Decency is a word I don’t even know the meaning to anymore.

It’s been too long since I’ve had a woman. That’s my only excuse. That and I’m becoming the monster that I’m hunting. I focus on the bruises on her knees that are scraped red and raw from time on the floor and the manacle around her ankle. Any feelings of arousal are jettisoned by the obvious signs of abuse.

Glancing sharply at Gomes, I wonder how he’s come to possess a beauty like Regan Porter. Gomes is a small-time flesh peddler, stuck up here in the slums, with a house full of females—half of which are missing their teeth or are too old or too broken.

He usually gets what the market calls second-hand goods, the girls that no other house wants. But Regan Porter is gorgeous, and while she looks a little rundown, she’s still model beautiful with big pink lips and wide green eyes.

“Nice tits,” I smirk for Gomes’ sake and her shudder of disgust only feeds into my growing belief that I’m as dirty as the flesh trader beside me. The dark edges of the world that I now inhabit are seeping into my skin like an oil slick covering an ocean. I shouldn’t want to touch her. And if I have to fuck her in front of Gomes to get her out of here—I don’t even let myself finish that thought.

There’s still life in her eyes. If she’s biting and spitting out acerbic insults, there’s spirit left in her, and I don’t want to be the one to snuff out that last flame. Her eyes convey her hate, and if she had a knife, I’d be sliced from my throat to my belly. I stare back, not because she’s fucking beautiful, but because she’s still standing. I’m not sure I would’ve been as strong. I don’t know if she sees my admiration or whether she can only interpret varying degrees of lust and degradation, but she sees something. An invisible string spools out between us and her eyes widen when it hits her like an electrical shock.

For months I’ve swum in a pool of blood and death and ugly deeds, and to hold onto my sanity and maybe my soul, I’ve told myself that saving these doves balances the scale. For every life I take, if I save one then it’s all a wash in the end. Don’t think it’s tallied that way at St. Peter’s Gate, but that’s the lie I tell myself so I can sleep at night and look at myself in the mirror the next day. Regan Porter will either be part of my attempt at salvation or the bloody stone that etches out the words He Failed on my headstone.

UNFORGIVEN may be one story where the crime was so realistic I just couldn’t forgive it myself.

Bailey and Darren were childhood friends and always seemed destined for so much more. They gravitated towards each other and no matter what relationship they were in, they never seemed quite as taken with their significant other as they were with each other. But something happened, something so significant that Darren now hates Bailey and hopes to never see her again. When Bailey moves back to her hometown after six years, she knows it will be difficult. But she doesn’t expect Darren to have also moved back home. When a mishap lands her in the hospital, she is horrified and dumbstruck when Darren is her physician.

As much as Darren hates Bailey, as angry as he is, he can’t seem to stay away from her. Instead, he puts himself in her way, but then can’t stop himself from being mean and sometimes cruel to her. Despite the pain, Bailey is willing to endure Darren’s mood swings in the hopes of finding out if there’s a chance he can forgive her one day. She even stays when her only reason for moving home (her mom) moves away. But while Bailey is patient, she’s not willing to destroy herself for something that isn’t ever going to happen, and Darren can’t promise he’ll ever get over Bailey’s transgressions.

UNFORGIVEN is a hard story. It’s realistic, painful and raw. I struggled along with Darren because I really didn’t know if I’d be able to move past what Bailey did. I still don’t know that I could. There are some really hot, sexy scenes between Bailey and Darren and there are also moments I couldn’t help but cry from all that they had to face in order to be together. This wasn’t a story I was flying through, and I can’t say for certain whether it was because of the difficult storyline itself or the setting (for some reason I don’t tend to be a big fan of rural, small town settings). I liked the way Ms. Finn took her time revealing what Bailey had done and the way she switched between current time and the past as the story progressed.

I’ve been a fan of Elizabeth Finn since reading THE DEVIL’S PAWN. UNFORGIVEN is a gritty and emotional story that explores a relationship between two people who have always wanted each other but have to decide if they can overcome the ultimate betrayal. While I struggled with the story, I think in this case that was exactly the point and Elizabeth Finn accomplished her goal. I give UNFORGIVEN 3.5 stars but rounded up for reviewing purposes because of the fluidity of the writing and the range of emotions Elizabeth Finn was able to make me feel over the course of the story.

You’d think that using the same circle of friends for each book in the series, that the books would become somewhat formulaic by now. But Katie McGarry gives a completely different breath and personality to each character and story so that every book in the PUSHING THE LIMITS series is original, exciting, and special all on it’s own.

Isaiah has learned from a lifetime of hard experiences that people walk away from people like him. To love someone is to give them permission to hurt him. Above all, he’s learned exactly what it takes to survive. He knows what look will keep people at arm’s length and that it’s better for people to owe him favors than the other way around. He has no intention of being indebted to anyone. When he and Noah have no money for rent, Isaiah decides to take part in an illegal street race in order to earn the money he needs to keep himself from having to go back to his foster home. But what he doesn’t expect is an innocent, naïve girl like Rachel to show up at the street race. He doesn’t want to get involved, but he can’t stand by while she gets taken advantage of in a world she doesn’t understand. He sticks his neck out to help her and ends up indebted to the last person he’d ever want to owe. If Isaiah and Rachel don’t find a way to come up with the money, both their lives are at stake.

Rachel may seem like she’s got the perfect life, but inside her huge home lurks darkness and secrets galore. She’s spent her whole life learning to be the person everyone wants to see instead of the person she really is. Isaiah is the first person who seems to see the real her, but she’s terrified of the day he’ll see her as the weak person everyone else sees when they look at her. Isaiah knows he’s not good enough for Rachel and he doesn’t want to bring her down into his world only to lose one more person when she figures out she deserves better.

I alternated between being sure Isaiah could find a way to get them out of the trouble they were in and freaking out that Rachel would mess it up all over again. Everything seemed to be working against the two of them and there were numerous times my heart was racing knowing Isaiah couldn’t take another hard knock. CRASH INTO YOU had me on the edge of my seat, in tears, and in love. I loved every emotion Katie McGarry put me through and I can’t wait to go through it all over again in West’s story, TAKE ME ON.
