A Love Worth Biting For by Roxy Mews

Book Blurb:

Who’s afraid of the big bad hybrid?

Hart Clan Hybrids, Book 1

Amber Paulson’s wolf has chosen a mate for her, but Amber is not amused with its pick. Jake Meyers might look amazing in a wet T-shirt and have the cheekbones and strong jaw that artists drool over. Too bad he is missing a pulse.

Jake is a vampire, well, mostly. Then a tall, curvy redhead pops up on his radar and something awakens in him. Even though he tries to stay away, Amber gets under his skin, and his vampire/werewolf heritage starts to become more bark and less bite. For the first time, he feels the call of the moon, and he knows it’s all because of Amber Paulson.

Amber’s trying to stay away, and Jake’s trying to not turn furry. They both fail miserably—and with a lot of sweaty and enjoyable property destruction.

By giving in to her mating call, Amber finds out more than she ever wanted to know about herself, her family, and the rogue wolf who took so much from her so long ago. As her past comes back to bite her, she’ll have to decide what she’s willing to give up for her mate. Her home? Her pack? Her…heartbeat?

Product Warnings
This book contains a snarky shifter heroine who could give Sookie a run for her money, a hot hunk of a vampire with a soft (and furry) side, and sex so sizzling that even an inter-species war can’t get in the way.

INTERVIEW:

Thank you Roxy for joining our blog on your very busy release day!  Congrats on on your new release!

(something is wrong with my fonts, so please excuse the slightly different sizing)

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I don’t think anyone decides they want to be a writer.  I remember reading books my whole life, and adoring the way a story explodes in my brain.  I always took notes, wrote things down, but it wasn’t until I found Erotic Romance a few years ago, that I found my “home” in the writing world.

When you are writing, do you set it up in an outline first or do you just formulate a plan in your head and start writing?

Is it bad that I don’t really even formulate a plan in my head?  That’s probably bad, isn’t it?  My characters drive my story.  Sometimes what I am going through in my life influences the storyline, but most of that ends up getting cut in edits.  The story just tells itself to me.  If I get to the point where I have to outline, I might be in trouble.

Advice:  Sometimes it's helpful and sometimes... not so much.  Have any authors offered you any advice that compelled you to move forward in chasing your dream of being an author?

I went to the RT conference two years ago for a single day.  Sophie Oak was going to be just a state over from me, and I couldn’t miss the chance to meet her.  I ended up weaseling my way into lunch with her.  Then Shayla Black joined us.  No…I’m not joking.  I had both of these women talking to me about getting started in a writing career.  They took the time to talk to me, and I will be forever grateful for that.  The best words I left that lunch with were, “Someone needs your story.”  I flew home that night, and that lunch combined with the friends I met that day, including Eliza Gayle, Peyton Elizabeth, Mary Abshire, and Dani Morgan had me in tears.  I found what I was supposed to do with my life.  All I had to do was be brave enough to follow my dreams.

Where were you when you found out your book was officially going to be published and did you do anything to celebrate?

I didn’t believe I was accepted for about two weeks after I got the yes.  I didn’t go about getting in touch with Samhain the traditional way, and I refused to celebrate until my editor Lisa sent me the email that said “I am officially welcoming you to Samhain Publishing.”  That night I popped a bottle of my favorite champagne and every milestone since then, I have done the same.  I have the corks next to my writing area.  I like the reminder that what I have already accomplished is worth celebrating.

What advice would you offer to others who really want to get their work published?

Network.  Whether it be joining a local writing group, going to a conference, or just joining an online group with similar interests.  Where I got lucky is, I am a voracious reader.  I love talking about books and telling authors that their books are amazing.  I got lucky, and the people I “met” are the people that have supported me and cheered me on.  Without the support of some of the authors I love to read, and a special group of ladies on Goodreads, I never would have had the balls to send in that first manuscript.  So get out there.  Meet people, and find your home.

Now that you are officially published, what is your next big goal?

To bend the world over and give it a big O! ;p  But seriously, my big goal is to create a book or series that resonates.  I want to put something out there that makes someone smile when they think they can’t.  And maybe to quit my crappy job someday.  As far as one specific thing…I want to attend a real signing as an author and have someone want me to sign something. :D

How did you prepare before writing A LOVE WORTH BITING FOR?

I didn’t.  Point blank.  Nothing about this was preparation or good planning.  This was a culmination of great people, Mary Hughes in particular, pushing me to get it done.  I didn’t prepare.  I experienced.  I fell down.  I wrote horrible stories, and then I let some people read them.  I had to realize they sucked and then I re-wrote them and made them better.

Did anything or anyone in particular inspire the story told in A LOVE WORTH BITING FOR?

This began as a NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) novel.  I wanted to capture how I felt when I fell in love with my husband.  The first scene in the book is exactly how I realized I loved him.  He ran by me shirtless and sweaty in a pair of shorts and a backwards ball cap, and I realized he was the one.  That feeling evolved into mating pheromones in my story, and then Amber came screaming from the pages and told me the rest.

Your heroine, Amber Paulson is one tough lady with a killer sense of humor - is she modeled after anyone you know...  or maybe she's a bit like you are in real life?

I can guarantee you I don’t turn into a wolf and eat rabbits.  Amber is nothing like me. ;p  There are characteristics of me in Amber, but by the end of edits, she had become her own person.  I like to think Amber is who I would become if I had the balls and freedom to do so.  I can drop a cuss word with the best of them, and I am a hard core smartass.  The rest…that’s all Amber.

How many books can readers expect in the HART CLAN HYBRIDS series?  Do you have a plan for the series or are you making it up as you go?

The Hart Clan Hybrids is a Trilogy.  I have Book 2 in the hands of Samhain editors right now, and I am working to polish the rough draft I have done on Book 3.  So the bones are done.  There are a few characters that I am being drawn to as the trilogy wraps up, but I haven’t decided if I want to dip back into this world.  While I was writing it, I knew the very end, but the journey to get there was totally screamed at me by the characters.

Are you planning to stick with Paranormal Romance, or do you have plans to branch out to other genres?  If so, care to share what your next adventure might be?

Actually the rough draft I am working on right now is a contemporary.  It’s much more of a traditional romance style.  There is still some snark and spice, because that is just me, and I don’t think I could write without those features if I tried.  After that, I have one more contemporary ménage banging around in my brain.  I fell in love with erotic romance through PNR, and I think that is why it is only fitting that what I show the world first has some serious bite to it.

Now, everyone has to have that totally "out there" kind of question, so here is mine for Roxy:

If you were stranded on a deserted island with no chance of being rescued in the foreseeable future, what items/people would you most like to have with you in the following categories?

a)    A man other than your husband.
Thor.  No question.  I like his hammer.
b)   Food Item
Um…duh.  Bacon.
c)    Luxury item you can't live without
My kindle.  Please tell me my deserted island has electricity and wifi.
d)   Album/CD
Cage the Elephant.  I have listened to this over and over, and haven’t gotten tired of it yet.
e)    Book
I get two. (Well...  since you *asked* so sweetly ;-)  It’s my imaginary island, and I will have Bite My Fire by Mary Hughes and Three to Ride by Sophie Oak.

First I Love You

First I Love You by Genevieve Dewey

One part Godfather, two parts Emma and a dash of Casablanca mixed together, "First, I Love You" isn't a detective novel, a gangster novel, a mystery, a romance or a family saga. It's a little of all of the above.
Imagine being a detective with a mobster for a father, or a mobster with a straight arrow, good cop for a son. This is a relationship that is tricky on its best day. Add in some well-meaning meddling from a mob princess sister, an arrogant DEA agent, and gangsters running a human trafficking ring and you have a recipe for a book that refuses to follow the rules. Told from the perspective and point of view of each the six main characters this is the first novel in a trilogy about love, loyalty, revenge and redemption.
Omaha Detective Tommy Gates has kept his gangster father at arm's length his whole life. Mickey Downey has spent the better part of the last two decades trying to find ways to get back the son he lost through Witness Protection. Now Tommy has taken an opportunity to work on a Federal Human Trafficking Joint Task Force in Chicago where his father lives. Tommy's sister Kiki and his mother Mary see this as an opportunity to build a relationship between the two. Tommy's new DEA partner James Hoffman sees it as an opportunity to gain leverage over Mickey Downey. Tommy's other partner, FBI Agent Ginny Sommers wants to keep Tommy's family as far from the case as possible. When Kiki and James join forces, sparks fly and it sets fire to a maelstrom of unexpected consequences for everyone involved.

As the population of York is plunged into panic, overwhelming the emergency services, Sara finds her loyalties torn between her newfound companion, now incarcerated within York's largest mental institution, and her sworn medical duties.
Should she lend any credence to his insistence that his purpose on Earth is to prevent an imminent catastrophe? Or that it is being orchestrated from within the city itself?
As her nights are filled with terrifying dreams and she is once again confronted by the memories of her abusive childhood, Sara is forced to accept that only one avenue remains open to her - to put her own life to one side in order to help prevent the rapidly approaching doomsday.

Deer in the Headlights

Deer in the Headlights by Staci Hart

Sweary, Sexy 18+ Romance
How do the Greek gods kill time? Because they're always bored. It's an unavoidable downside of being alive for thousands of years. So, they play games. Games with human players. Remember Shakespeare? Yeah, that was Apollo. Bonnie and Clyde? Aphrodite vs Ares.
It's Aphrodite's turn once again in the rounds of competitions, and she'll defend her domain: Love. She hasn't lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia, and she's not about to start now. Apollo is her first competitor, and he's on a mission to win. If he wins, he'll get a token; a favor that Aphrodite must fulfill. And with that favor, he'll finally get the one woman he's never been able to have.
Aphrodite and Apollo will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can't get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And she couldn't have that.
Lex and Dean are perfect for each other. They just don't know it yet.
Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a man-whore. A brooding, gorgeous, rock star man-whore. Lex always has a boyfriend, but she's never let anyone in enough to let herself go. Not really. Not ever. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can't make it work, no one can.
But she has more at stake than just Lex and Dean. Apollo killed her mortal love, and that beef has been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to start a fight, and get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, her best friend, is the one person she can confide in, laugh with, and always count on for a healthy helping of bacon when she's having a bad day.
Follow the gods as they fight, laugh, cry, lose love, and gain power. Making a mess with humans has never been so fun.

Snake in the Grass

Snake in the Grass by Staci Hart

It’s Round Two of high stakes Love Connection on Olympus, and this time, everything has changed. For Aphrodite, at least.
Ares is on deck, and Aphrodite is nervous. As much as she loves to hook up with him, she doesn’t trust him as far as she could throw him, which isn’t very far. He’s a big dude. They haven’t been together in a very long time, but she can’t resist him. She never could. Even when every part of her screamed that he was a liar.
Ares has a plan to keep Aphrodite, for good this time. He wants to win the game, but he’ll hold back to get what he wants. He’s sitting on a chance that he’s been waiting thousands of years for, and he’ll do what he has to do to convince her to stay forever.
The only thing that could stop him is the secret that he’s been keeping from her for eons. If she finds out, it will destroy everything.
Kat and Dillon have been through a lot, and everything has been to protect their younger siblings. They have sacrificed everything to make sure their brother and sister are safe. The players are tough and loyal. Fierce and determined. But they become each other’s weakness, even though they fight it, and even though it means danger for Kat and her sister.
If Aphrodite can get the players over their egos and issues long enough to see that they’re meant for each other, the competition will be a piece of cake. One that she’ll eat a la mode, right in front of Ares, if she beats him.

What the Heart Wants

What the Heart Wants by Staci Hart

It's 1984, and Tanaka Katsu is paving his way in the Yakuza. His marriage to Yuki was a business deal, and one that he has paid for with his happiness.
Aphrodite can't stand that he's so miserable, and Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy, has a strong hold on Yuki, who will do whatever it takes to get what she believes is hers. Aphrodite won't sit by and watch Katsu's life slip away with no chance at love, so when he takes a trip to Vegas, she'll introduce him to his match.
Kim never thought she'd be in the situation like the one that's coming her way, but what the heart wants is a powerful thing, and one that's impossible to walk away from.
