Review: The Art of Domination

The Art of Domination (The Art of D/s, #2)The Art of Domination by Ella Dominguez
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ella Dominguez doesn’t hold anything back in THE ART OF DOMINATION. While a lot of recent BDSM novels focus on the Domination and Submission aspects of BDSM and tread lightly on the more taboo components, Ella delves deep into the Sadism and Masochism facet in the second book in The Art of D/s series.

THE ART OF DOMINATION picks up where the reader left off with THE ART OF SUBMISSION, but the reader will notice some major changes in this book from the last. While the reader still gets to hear both Dylan and Isa’s perspectives, this time they pick up where the other left off instead of repeating a scene from the opposite point of view. I thought this was a smart move on the author’s part as now the reader gets the best of both worlds. We still get to hear from both Dylan and Isa but now the story flows seamlessly with no interruptions or backtracking.

The second major change is Dylan. He lets Isa see the real him in the sequel, for better or worse. For those readers who like a little light BDSM in their reading but are uncomfortable with the darker points, I should mention that the beginning is a bit shocking in that Dylan doesn’t hold back when he’s showing Isa all of who he is and what he likes. After the wedding night though, the author really brought back the nuances of Dylan and Isa and what makes their relationship work. As a result, I didn’t mind the harsher punishments or scenes after that, quite the opposite. I just needed that little extra time to get back to them first.

The story has a great action-filled plot to go along with the growing, evolving relationship between Isa and Dylan and one I enjoyed very much. The real bread and butter for me though was the ending, when Dylan was SO open and broken at even the idea of losing Isa. The way he spoke to her when he thought he might lose her was so beautiful, so perfect, I almost wish it could have been at the beginning instead of the end because OH MY GOODNESS it made me want to read more!!! But then, it wouldn’t have made sense in the beginning and it certainly leaves the reader panting for book three. All in all, I thought THE ART OF DOMINATION did a great job depicting a truer, darker perspective on BDSM.

Review: Restoring Jordan

Restoring JordanRestoring Jordan by Elizabeth Finn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Five Glowing, Pulsating, Gasping Stars for RESTORING JORDAN!!! Elizabeth Finn's books just get better and better and I may need to start stalking her for new books because she writes the best MEN! She knows that the best kind of man is the bad boy that no one can get, until he falls for that one woman. And oh, how hard I've fallen for Jordan… My heart is aching just to know that the story is over and I can't see him anymore.

The story starts with a virgin and a one-night stand. I seem to have a special place in my heart for stories where the main character loses her virginity in a completely unexpected way to a man least likely to be offered the job because this is the second of Ms Finn's books where I've experienced this and I was hooked from line one!

Adeline is out for a night of celebration after landing the internship of the century and she decides to step out of her comfort zone with an uber hot older man she meets at the bar without even knowing his name. Fast forward two days and who do you think she stumbles into at her new internship? You guessed it, Mr. One Night Stand himself. But it's not just the dynamic of the off-limits restoration principal and the intern, though that in and of itself was steamy and angsty and everything I like. It's the way Elizabeth Finn writes – her characters say the kind of things you want to highlight and underline and come back to read over and over! It's the way I become so obsessed with her characters that I'm pulling out my kindle at every red light so I can read just one more sentence! It's also the fact that the author writes all this without making you want to jump up and down and yell at the main characters or hit them over the head, not even once!

If I haven't made it clear, RESTORING JORDAN is a MUST read – it's romantic and beautiful and everything I could have hoped for and so much more! It has a phenomenal storyline, well carved out characters, and the perfect love story that makes you jealous and excited all at once.

Review: Color Her Red

Color Her Red
Color Her Red by Crystal L. Shaw

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

COLOR HER RED is the first book by new author Crystal L. Shaw. I really liked the general basis of the book – I am a sucker for any storyline with a powerful and wealthy hero, then tack on the fact that he is a reformed playboy and I will snatch it up in a heartbeat!

Emma and Thomas have been married for about a year when rumors begin to fly all over the media about Thomas’ supposed infidelity. Emma, understandably, is an emotional wreck and isn’t quite sure what to believe. While dealing with the fallout and emotional aspects of the alleged infidelity, Emma finds herself in a terrifying predicament, as she becomes the target of one of Thomas’ mentally unstable former ex-girlfriends. Yikes!

From the beginning, I was captured by the charming characters and the mystery surrounding them – I was anxiously rubbing my hands together in anticipation – excited about what would happen next. I kept waiting for some sort of twist or pivotal moment in the story that never really came to fruition. I had plenty of suspicions about how the story might wrap up, but I was very surprised to find that there was no twists or surprises at all. In my opinion, COLOR HER RED would benefit greatly if the author added something unexpected that would yank the reader out of the blissfully perfect world in which the characters live and shake them up a bit.

There was also a bit of a disconnect for me as a reader with the “other” woman, Lillian’s role in the story – there were things about her activities that just didn’t jive for me. For instance, How did Lillian keep getting in the house? Where was Emma’s bodyguard, Michael when Lillian broke into the house the last time? Wasn’t the alarm code reset? I didn't buy that Michael would have left for any reason – his sole purpose at this point in the story was to protect Emma. Then, wouldn't they still have the alarm activated even if there were guards outside? I think they would, because the house is probably large - there would be no way that 2 men could properly guard a house of that size well enough to forego the alarm system. And if I somehow missed it and the alarm was set, how did she get in? The author said this would all be explained in the sequel, but I feel that this is information that should have been resolved in THIS installment – there wasn’t much to resolve, so why not go ahead and clear that up? It seemed to me to be more like a gap in the plot than a cliffhanger…

I would like to see the plot in COLOR HER RED to be expanded a bit to include a few jaw-dropping moments. I also think the characters could use some more development and tension. As the story stands, it was a 2 star read for me – if the author were to revamp the book, I would definitely take another look because I think Ms. Shaw has a story that is worth telling, it just needs a little work.

The Submission of Alistair Ingram by Kelli Maine

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Meh... this one was just o-k for me. I was really enjoying the idea of the story, because I love it when famous people take a liking to a non-famous person, but this one needed a little bit more character and plot development in my opinion. I felt like it ended kind of abruptly.

Beautifully Damaged
Beautifully Damaged by L.A. Fiore

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

AYE YA YAI! My head is swimming! What on earth did this story turn in to?

BEAUTIFULLY DAMAGED started out strong – strong heroine, strong hero and a strong plot – I was hooked until about 85% and then the debauchery, twists and uncovering of information became a little too excessive for my mind to comprehend.

There is just too much room for me to give something away, so I am just going to leave it at that.

Review: In the Service of Women

In the Service of Women
In the Service of Women by Shayne McClendon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well now, that certainly was...er... interesting? Talk about uninhibited!

I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting with IN THE SERVICE OF WOMEN, but it was entertaining and very erotic. Sarah is very young, 18ish when she is recruited by an escort service that caters to the needs of women, which sometimes includes men, but THIS book is all about the "power of the pussy"! As Sarah's story ramped up, I couldn't help but picture an older woman (when I say older I mean older than her actual age - late 20's/30's) - she seems so wise - far beyond her young age and she is definitely a freak in the sheets!

The story is told as a chronicle of sexual adventures Sarah experienced as a high-end call girl. As a sex worker, she recalls, as you can imagine, a lot of sex, but that's not all. I came to see Sarah as a sort of sex-therapist who actually gets down and dirty with her clients in order to better their lives. It was an interesting perspective to say the least.

This is a great read if you dig girl-on-girl action and stories about self-discovery - I might take a few of her pointers into my own bedroom (true statement) - just read it and guess which ones ;-)

Review: Devoured

Devoured
Devoured by Emily Snow

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

DEVOURED was an entertaining read with all the elements I tend to like in a romantic story - boy meets girl, offends her and reappears in her life years later - boy wants girl and girl wants boy, but she is protecting her heart from a repeat of humiliation and hurt - boy is a rockstar... Did I forget to mention that? Oh yes, he is a Rock God and is used to getting what he wants, so he devises a plan to claim her as his own. Sounds like a great read, right?

Well... yes and no. I loved it, but felt that their relationship should have progressed so much more than it did. The characters seemed to get stuck in a tug-of-war with each others heart strings and I got a little bored with their indecisive behavior. Then there is the dreaded cliff-hanger that is ever so popular these days... well, not so much a cliff-hanger as an ending with no resolution. I kind of felt like it just stopped, so I was left very unsatisfied with how things played out. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series to hopefully discover what fate has in store for these characters.

**NOTE: I was informed by another reader that there is a prequel that tells how their story began and I have heard that it is a must read that will rekindle the excitement regarding the romance surrounding this couple. The novella/story is currently FREE on Amazon (2/19/13) and is called [b:All Over You|16161536|All Over You (Devoured, #0.5)|Emily Snow|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1353434576s/16161536.jpg|22003364]. Review: Dream On

Dream OnDream On by Renita Pizzitola
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Renita Pizzitola writes like an artist paints and her stories are in full color – all the way through. In DREAM ON, the reader encounters an entirely different world where dreamwalkers can enter other people’s dreams – and in some cases, lose their own body in the process. But one chapter into the story and you will completely forget that this isn’t real life because everything makes perfect sense when Renita is the one explaining it.

We follow Emory, a dreamwalker by profession, who encounters another dreamwalker while on the job. The only problem is, Grayson’s body has been abducted and he needs her help if he has any hope of ever getting it back. Emory’s only chance of helping him is to find the person who stole his body and figure out a way to lure him out so Grayson can get back in.

Aside from the easy flirtation between Emory and Grayson and the understandable conflict for Emory when she meets the body snatcher who looks like Grayson but who she must remind herself is not who he seems, the author also keeps the story interesting with twists and turns that remind the reader you never know who you can trust. Readers have to decide for themselves if Emory is trusting the right people as she risks her body and her soul to help a fellow dreamwalker. I loved the easy flow of the story, the crisp descriptions that made me feel like I was right there alongside Emory, and of course the romance. This is a fun and quick read and an excellent new concept in the genre of urban fantasy!

Review: Bad Rep

Bad Rep
Bad Rep by A. Meredith Walters

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

BAD REP is loaded with all the angst and stereotypical drama one might expect to find when sorority girls combine alcohol with boys and hormones.

Honestly, I wanted to love it...it had all the elements I generally find appealing in a novel: hottie bad boy, rockers, love triangle and a little smut action for good measure. Though I enjoyed the idea of the book and generally liked the characters, I became disenchanted with the story because of the constant drama. It was a little exhausting and I would have like to have read more about Jordan and Maysie's budding relationship, but there seemed to always be something pulling them apart in their quest to be together and I was not satisfied with that aspect of the story.

Another point of weakness in the story, in my opinion, was the portrayal of sorority life... I would be curious to know if author, A. Meredith Walters was actually in a sorority? Maybe she was... Greek life varies drastically from school to school, but I found myself doing the "eye roll" frequently in regards to her portrayal of "Rush Week" - alcohol in the sorority house at the rush parties? No, I don't think so! In my experience, that would be a supreme way to get the entire sorority put on probation by the National Panhellenic Council and possibly booted off campus entirely. Not believable. To be fair, maybe this particular sorority isn’t governed by a higher organization and can get by with such behavior – I know, I know, it’s a fictitious sorority, but still I can’t see this going down.

I didn’t much care for Maysie’s character. I thought she was a bit annoying and I grew tired of her apparent need to always run away from her problems. Though her parents were mentioned and it was stated on several occasions that there was obvious tension in the family, we never learn the real source of the conflict, other than Maysie’s mounting debt – so, I that aspect felt unresolved. I did, however, like Jordan’s character. He was charming, respectful and drive; he seemed to be an overall good guy.

BAD REP’s plot was a great idea, but less than stellar execution.

Review: Nowhere

Nowhere
Nowhere by Marysue G. Hobika

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

NOWHERE quickly entices readers with the age-old hook of opposites attract, but this story is far from typical as author, Marysue G. Hobika brings the reluctant city girl, Mikayla to the country town of Railroad Mills.

The fastest way to rock a teenager’s world is to force them to pick up their action- packed city life, leave their friends in the middle of their senior year and move to a town so small there’s not even a red light! Yeah, that is exactly what Mikayla, or “Mike” as her friends called her, is forced to endure when tragedy strikes.

Mike is a feisty one and I love that about her! A tomboy at heart, she is the polar-opposite of her sister, Emma. While Mike initially resists the allure of the small town atmosphere, Emma seizes the opportunity to flaunt her stuff and “own” the school as one of the popular kids. Mike’s miserable attitude is tolerable because she is suffering a terrible loss, but her negativity was beginning to wear on me there for a minute. When she finally pulled her head out of her butt, the transformation of her mindset about “Nowhere” was a pleasure to watch as the distaste morph into adoration of the small town pleasures Railroad Mills has to offer. One of those small town pleasures just happens to be none other than the hot-bodied, faded denim clad, cowboy boot wearing James Muldoon – now THAT is something that just might be worth sticking around for!

James, also known as Dooner, is a doll! Dooner is the kid you would love for your daughter to date and the boy you would want your son to be like. He’s been in “Nowhere” his entire life and he is itching to go somewhere, anywhere other than another small podunk-town like Railroad Mills. As the local football star, he is praying for a scholarship to take him to better places – that is until he caught sight of the long-legged beauty he comes to know as “Mike.” It is obvious from the get-go that Mike is going to be a challenge, he can see the fire in her eyes and he can’t wait to feel their burn.

Growing up in a small town, I could totally relate to some of the antics these teenagers got into on a quest to entertain themselves. Marysue G. Hobika concocts a believable and entertaining story with a wonderful cast of characters in NOWHERE. It is a great story that is sure to please those who love a feel good romance, at any age.

Review: Beauty From Pain

Beauty From Pain
Beauty From Pain by Georgia Cates

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Typical… This is just so damn typical of my life in the reading world these days. Yes, I am referring to myself, not the book. BEAUTY FROM PAIN is a far from typical romantic story with a wonderfully unique premise. What’s typical then? I’ll tell you what’s typical, the lack of resolution…the dreaded cliffhanger that has my soul in knots wanting to know the rest of the story.

BEAUTY FROM PAIN is a beautifully written, all engrossing story that explores the journey of a relationship that begins as a no-string-attached fling but ultimately blossoms into something else entirely.

Laurelyn Prescott escapes her life as a musician in Nashville, with her best friend, to the “Land Down Under.” She is hoping that Australia will help mend her broken heart after suffering a nasty break-up and she plans to do this without the help of any man. That’s the plan, or at least it WAS the plan, until Mr. Secret Sexy-Man makes her an offer that’s almost too good to refuse… but she has to refuse, right? That’s when her spunky and carefree BFF steps in and speaks these awesome words of wisdom: “The best way to get over somebody is to get under someone else.” Well, I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Jack McLachlan is, by Laurelyn’s description, “hotter than the devil’s ass” and also happens to be a very successful owner of multiple vineyards across the South Pacific and Europe. Needless to say, he is a wanted man, but he has issues of his own that prevent him from opening his life and his heart to any woman. In order to protect himself from the complications (that he perceives) women bring to romantic relationships, he has devised a foolproof plan that has worked for several years – anonymous encounters lasting weeks or months, only promising to provide hot sex and the best life has to offer during their time together.

Pffft! Sexy smokin’ hottie + The time of my life = SOLD! Where do you want me? On my back or my knees – hell, I might even let a man like that strap me to a St. Andrews Cross, but, no worries, there’s no cross or crop to be seen in this novel.

BEAUTY FROM PAIN is chocked full of subtle humor, sexy characters and great one-liners. I even picked up my new favorite phrase “slut button” – Oh! I am soooo using that one again! This is far from being author Georgia Cates’ first book, but it’s a first for me by this author and you can bet a “roo’s ass” (love that) that I will be snatching up more of her work and stalking the release of the next book in the BEAUTY series.

Review: Violet Midnight

Violet Midnight (Violet Night, #1)Violet Midnight by Lynn Rush
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

When Jake and Emma meet at a college frat party, they are instantly drawn to each other and quickly realize they have a lot more than their attraction for each other in common. Two years ago they both woke up on opposite side of the country with weird tattoos on their wrists and no memory of how they got there. While Emma quickly found Gabriel, a man open to fate and willing to help her research her tattoo and the meaning behind it, Jake moved from state to state, having much less luck in discovering his destiny.

When they meet each other, Emma teaches Jake about his abilities and together they train and continue to research the history and meaning of their tattoos. While the action scenes in VIOLET MIDNIGHT were interesting and kept the story moving, I found the character development lacking and the characters themselves flat. Not only did I feel like the main characters got a surface description but little depth, the minor characters had even less personality. One character in particular I actually had to go back and reread to see if I'd missed the chapter where he'd been introduced. Aside from a mention of his college major and fraternity affiliation, "Greg" was little more than an occasional crutch and felt like he'd been added to the story at the last minute with little regard to his actual personality.

As a whole, VIOLET MIDNIGHT felt like a skeleton – the bones of the story were there but all the meat that should have filled it up was missing. Each chapter felt like it skipped material and the majority of the book I felt like I was missing some crucial depth. The nickname "Vamps" irritated me and I felt no connection with Emma and Jake and certainly not the 10 days it took them to fall in love. I'm usually a big fan of paranormal romance but this just felt forced – the romance and the paranormal.

Review: Bound by Fire

Bound by Fire, Cauld Ane #2Bound by Fire, Cauld Ane #2 by Tracey Jane Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

BOUND BY FIRE is the second book in the Cauld Ane series and like the first, has all the right ingredients for a spectacular paranormal romance: hot alpha male who will love you unconditionally and will follow you to the end of the earth and drag you back if you try to leave, an action-packed plot, and writing that encompasses you and sucks you in.

Pepper has not had an easy life with an alcoholic mother, mother's boyfriends that paw at her when her mom passes out, and now a stalker who seems determined to ruin her life. In walks Connall and true to the Cauld Ane way, he instantly knows Pepper is his mate and the two become inseparable. I love how deeply these Scottish men love - to the core; there is no in-between with them and they won't take no for an answer. It is sexy and endearing, all at once. I do have to say that I didn't "feel" Pepper and Connall quite the way I did Sam and Kade, I thought that their love story almost took a backseat to the action-filled storyline. The secondary characters also seemed to have a more surface level depth than in the prior book, although this didn't stop me from getting really excited to hear their story.

I think Tracey Jane Jackson has an amazing ability to write a world that you instantly become a part of as a reader. She also seems to know just how to set up the next Cauld Ane love interest - leaving the reader drooling for the next book in the series. Now I just have to figure out whether its Max or Brodie I'm most dying to fall in love with next! You'll want to read this fantastic (and refreshingly clean) series in order to really get a full understanding of the Cauld Ane dynamic and all the characters involved; you won't be disappointed!

Review: Collide

Collide
Collide by Gail McHugh

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

That was painful and maddening, but you know, all pain isn’t bad.

COLLIDE was painful. The story begins just as Emily Cooper’s life as she once knew it was forever shattered by the death of her mother, but never fear, Dillon, her wonderfully charming and thoughtful boyfriend ::cough:: swoops in to save the day by whisking her away from Colorado and into his life in New York City. Emily soon learns, that “Prince Charming,” Dillon, isn’t quite the prince he likes to portray.

COLLIDE was maddening…well, I suppose the madness was in my own mind because, to me, the solution was simple. You know how they say there are 2 sides to every story and then there’s the truth? That’s the benefit the reader has over the characters, but I’m not really telling you anything you don’t already know. Watching Emily and Dillon’s very one-sided relationship from a bird’s eye view was enough to send me into a fit of rage. Emily is such a sweet and likeable character, but I could not, for the life of me, figure out what the hell she was doing with a controlling, dickhead like Dillon.

Then, the perfect combination of painful madness was the forbidden chemistry between Emily and Gavin. Who’s Gavin? Oh yeah, he’s the super-hunk extraordinaire; guys want to be him and girls want to fuck him, need I say more? I just wanted to slap Emily for not taking the plunge when she first laid eyes on the man, I know, that makes me a bad girl, but I never claimed to be an angel.

I was tempted to rate this book 4 stars out of spite for the cliffhanger author Gail McHugh left us with, but my sanity returned to me (after a minor temper-tantrum) and thought better of being a bitch today and gave it the 5 stars it deserved. Isn’t it true that goodness prevails? I hope so, because I’m really trying here and hoping to telepathically communicate with Ms. McHugh to tell her to hurry her cute little ass up and complete the next installment because I have got to know the rest of the freaking story! Get it, read it, but don’t be pissed at me when you have to wait until the summer to get the full story. Yeah, she obviously likes torture, because I can’t even find a release date. Madness, I tell you…

Pole Dance
Pole Dance by J.A. Hornbuckle

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

POLE DANCE successfully captured my attention in the first few chapters, but as the book progressed, the characters failed to meet my expectations. I found that I got a bit bored with the story and just wanted to get to the end to know what was going to happen.

It was a little redundant and tended to drag. Good idea, poor execution. With some editing and character development and growth, this could be a fantastic story.

Review: Three Stages of Love: Lust

Three Stages of Love: Lust
Three Stages of Love: Lust by T.C. Anthony

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

THREE STAGES OF LOVE: LUST started out with a bang, but the wishy-washy heroine brought the story down to a soft tap with her annoying antics.

Life is precious. Love is something to be cherished and embraced. Evangeline Chase must have missed that memo along the way – she actually might be the most annoying “heroine” I have ever encountered in all the books I have read. Eva, a very driven career woman, started out as a tolerable character – not unlike many female main characters in erotic romance novels, but I expected the self-absorbed, control-freak would soften a bit when her sexy love interest entered the picture, but NO! SHE GOT WORSE!

Here is what worked for me:

The premise of THREE STAGES OF LOVE: LUST was a winner. I’m a sucker for stories that involve 2 dominant lead characters, I really enjoy watching them grow and change as they figure out how to exist in the same space without constantly fighting for dominance…that did not happen in this book.

I loved Eva as the feisty and successful businesswoman and I loved that she wasn’t willing to compromise her goals for love. She never had visions of becoming any man’s “little woman” – caring for a house full of kids, scrubbing toilets and cooking dinner every night for a family.

I adored Alexander – what a treasure of a man! Alexander could have any woman he wanted – handsome, self-made powerful venture capitalist AND a total sweetheart! He put up with way more crap from Eva than I care to recall.

The supporting characters were great! I found that about half way through the book, I was more interested in Marcus and Samantha’s budding relationship than Eva and Alexander’s train wreck of a courtship.

Here is what I had trouble with:

Eva’s character was about as egocentrical as they come and she is the sole reason for a 3 star rating as opposed to a 4 star rating. I kept waiting for the big epiphany that her life is pretty much perfect, but it never came. The following statement, from the book’s blurb is misleading about Eva’s character: "Eva’s transformation from prim and proper to fun and dominating proves to be one of the most erotically intriguing personal makeovers around." This makes me think her character as a whole makes this transformation, not just split personalities for day and night. Yes, she is fairly prim and proper at work, but after hours, when the sun goes down, she is dominating, but I wouldn’t call her fun – her games are played to make herself feel as though she has the upper hand, but she usually just ends up hurting those around her as she uses her “friends” as pawns for her amusement. Honestly, I wanted to slap her right off the page on multiple occasions – she was THAT dislikable!

As I said before, I loved Alexander, but I cringed at his weakness where Eva was concerned, but I suppose I can’t fault him for loving a bitch.

Finally, men DO NOT GIGGLE! They do not! Giddy schoolgirls giggle – excited females giggle. Men DO NOT GIGGLE – please consider curtailing the male “giggling” in the next installment, because it successfully ripped me right out of the story each and every time I read it. Yes, I say curtail it in the next installment as if I am going to read it, right? Well, yes, I am definitely going to read it, because I am a glutton for punishment AND author T.C. Anthony left us with a teensy bit of a cliffhanger that left me with a glimmer of hope that Eva is going to get her shit together and quit with all the tantrums. I hope I am not wrong…

Review: S.E.C.R.E.T.: A Novel

S.E.C.R.E.T.: A Novel
S.E.C.R.E.T.: A Novel by L. Marie Adeline

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sizzling hot and sometimes dir-tay, don’t lie, everyone has them… SECRETS, that’s what we are talking about, those secret desires that you don’t tell anyone about for fear of being judged. What would you do if given the opportunity to have those erotic secret fantasies realized?

Following the death of her husband, Cassie Robichaud basically withdrew and resorted to a life of solitude filled with regret and guilt. One lucky day, while waiting tables, she finds a diary left by a customer. It’s not just any kind of diary, it is a journal filled with erotic fantasies…or maybe actual events, she is not sure. After reading a page or two… okay maybe three, she does know that the forbidden desires written on the pages make her feel more sexually aroused than she has felt in a long time, as the words conjure images worthy of a first class porno. Cassie feels revived and energized by the words, but also ashamed that she invaded this sweet lady’s most private thoughts.

Once the diary is returned to its rightful owner, Cassie life as she once knew it is forever changed as she is introduced to S●E●C●R●E●T. What is S●E●C●R●E●T? Think of S●E●C●R●E●T as being an underground sorority and in this case, the women associated with this secret society band together to make even the most wicked dreams come true for other women. Damn! Do these really exist? Got to find me one of those… As Cassie’s journey progresses and she becomes more involved in S●E●C●R●E●T, she feels free-spirited, desired and confident – feelings she rarely experienced in her “old” life. When her 10-step journey concludes and Cassie is faced with a tough decision, which path does she choose?

S●E●C●R●E●T was filled with a variety of naughty goodness, but I would have liked a bit more story and character development between each step. I felt that the story just went from step to step without a whole lot of substance in between – this is the point of weakness that holds this book back from being a solid 5 star read. L. Marie Adeline definitely gets big points for originality and sensuality and I can’t wait for book 2, especially since we were left with a mild cliffhanger. Read S●E●C●R●E●T if you like the idea of fantasies becoming reality and be sure to take a box of batteries to bed with you – trust me, you’re gonna need ‘em!

Review: Agent of Desire

Agent of Desire
Agent of Desire by Charlie Evans

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Damn! That was hot! AGENT OF DESIRE, the first book in the exciting JESSICA BOOKER series, is chocked full of super-sexy spies that will make your panties melt.

Jessica Booker is a badass CIA agent on a mission to uncover the truth…about what? That’s just it…she’s not sure. In the world of espionage, nothing is ever as it seems and this mission is no different. Jessica must remain focused, but that proves to be very difficult with all the hot, hard-bodied men that surround her – between the rogue agents, her “handler” and the nerd-hottie they are after, she has to stay alert an on her on her toes as danger seems to lurk around every corner.

This erotic spy thriller has a sexy and twisty plot that sucks the reader in from the very first page. I devoured it in one sitting, as I am certain you will too when you pick up this page-turner!

Review: Temptation

Temptation
Temptation by K.M. Golland

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

temp·ta·tion [temp-tey-shuhn]
noun
1. the act of tempting; enticement or allurement.
2. something that tempts, entices, or allures.
3. the fact or state of being tempted, especially to evil.

What a story! TEMPTATION is an intriguing novel with a lust driven plot laced with a lot of humor. It’s the first book in THE TEMPTATION series by new author; K.M. Golland and I have to say that I was sucked into the story straight out of the gate!

At first glance, the decision Alexis Summers is faced with is simple, but as the story progresses, it is clear that things are not so “black and white.” Alexis is totally content with her life as a 35 year old, happily married mother of two – well, she is until she encounters the charming and sexy hotel owner, Bryce Clark. When Alexis decides to return to work her simple life suddenly becomes very complicated when faced with the ultimate temptation in the form of her very persuasive new boss – Mr. Clark.

I struggled with the overall plot of TEMPTATION and I had to keep reminding myself that this is a fictional book, but I couldn’t help the stress I felt for Alexis. On one hand, I believe cheating is just wrong, no matter if we are talking about a test or a relationship, but the little devil inside my head really wanted Alexis to take the plunge and get down to business with the irresistible man who was not her husband. Then, as I got to know her husband, Rick, I was screaming: “No! No! No! DON’T DO IT!” As a reader, I internalized the moral and ethical dilemma the very sweet and kind Alexis was faced with – it’s easy to say what you would do when it’s not happening to you! It’s also much easier if one of the parties involved possesses traits undesirable to a mate, but none of these characters do! Alexis, Rick and Bryce - I loved them all!

So the BIG question is: What does she ultimately decide to do? TEMPTATION left me guessing until the very end. The wrap up left us with a very mild cliffhanger – not enough to entirely frustrate the reader, but just enough to make you want to dive into the next installment (tentatively set for an early March 2013 release). Get this book; you are going to love it!
